Hello all, just changed the engine battery as it was kaput shall we say. Access was a nightmare but we got there in the end.

The engine appears to have TWO engine fans. First question is why two? The issue is that the smaller of the two kicks in all the time. When driving, when stationary and more worryingly after you lock up and leave the motorhome. It obviously is a drain on the battery and before I changed the battery, it did stop after a few minutes but...having connected the new battery to a cold engine, the second fan kicked in and kept going. Is this fan necessary and if so why? Can I disconnect it in someway without detrimental effect? The drain is quite significant so I'm anxious to get to the bottom of this issue. Hope my photos will help you with your advice. Thanks again. ❤ 🇫🇷

One fan which is for the radiator will be thermostatically controlled. This can cut in out when temp is exceeded & often runs on after the vehicle is switched off to reduce the temperature. It either runs on a timer & relay & I would think this is where the problem is.The 2nd fan could be for additional cooling but I would have thought it is likely to be for Air conditioning at a guess.

Yeah understand that to a point. Looking at the vehicle from the front. The main fan is in the middle of the vehicle, the secondry fan is to the right of the main fan, as you look at the vehicle head on. Its this smaller fan that is giving me the problem. I don't get what it does. Why would it kick in when the engine was cold and no ignition turned on.. It's bizarre.

The sensor is knackered or the relay contacts may be welded shut. Try pulling the relay out.
Good info. Not a clue where the sensor is located but I'm guessing the relay is one of the two located on the back wall of engine compartment. So much hit and miss at the moment. The problem with older vehicles is so many add ons. Wires here and there, some joined on a wing and a prayer, some corroded off... It's giving me some old school mechanical headaches. I'm enjoying it but it's a bit frustrating to say the least. Thanks for the info.. ❤️
