So, after ten long agonising months of the worse stress we have ever know trying to sell our house, we have finally moved out as of yesterday and are now full time living in the van. We are elated and overjoyed now because of the absolute fiasco and farcical we were in caused by extremely amateur estate agents and solicitors. It was touch and go all the way to the final day with exchange and completion on that day. Never again.

Such a relief when it finally happens. My last sale took 6 months mainly due to buyers solicitor and was completed on the last day of the mortgage offer to my buyer. On the day before the sale I had to commit to moving out my furniture and put into storage not knowing if the sale would definitely go ahead.

I think it all went pear shaped when law firms started using conveyancers ( probably paid peanuts) and piling the cases on them. The big online conveyancing firms can be awful to deal with.
But it’s all behind you now!!!! Hope you have great adventures ahead.

That was exactly our scenario yesterday too, so you know what kind of stress we was under (y) You really can’t make this stuff up. Anyhow, all done now so onwards and upwards.

Well done Aleman as you know we left on the 5th of March and must admit we love it, currently in Portugal as of today.
Be nice to meet for a beer one day 🍻
Enjoy

Thanks Ironsides. I don’t think we’ll have any problems adjusting to this way of life and a beer is always a good idea. :giggle: (y) 3rd night coming up and loving it.:giggler:

I went through an enforced ‘simultaneous’ same day exchange and completion 3 weeks go.
I’m not moving again !
Stressful !!

Hi David and good luck with your plan. We are imminently going to Scotland for a two week holiday, then it’s back the site we are on now and back to a normal working life, just doing it from a van instead of a house. We will move sites (CL’s, CS’s) every few weeks for a change of scenery and a different view, but probably carry on working, albeit part time for the pair of us for a few more years and then see how it goes. Hopefully by then we’ll be able to travel more extensively. (y)

Congratulations TheAleMan, I empathise as we went through similar pain three years ago , the actions of some people and “professionals “ take some believing.

Good for you AleMan - think we should have done the same a few years ago, different scenery every week or two sounds idyllic to me. We will be following in your footsteps - our first trip will be to see some friends in Scotland, then travel back down the country meeting other friends, before the train to France and the wide expanse of Europe :)

That’s wonderful news. Have a great time adjusting to the new freedom.

Glad to hear other people taking the plunge in these crazy times we find ourselves in.
We’ve just gone full time too - our third day today. On a small campsite close to where we work.
Sold one house just before Christmas and are about to sell the second with a sitting tenant. I finish my job on 9th August and Mr B finishes on 28th.
Planning a couple of weeks in Scotland to catch up with family and then hoping to spend the rest of the year in Europe - if we will be allowed in
After that? Who knows ...... we‘ll think about it nearer the time :giggle:

Well done. We sold up in the UK in 1998. The intervening years have had ups and downs, and we've gone from caravan dwellers to motorhome dwellers, static dwellers, renters and now back to owning a golf apartment in the Murcia region of Spain. If we get a good few years from that, that'll be good enough for us.

Who knows where life will take you. Just go with the flow and enjoy 👍😉

Good luck Sharon, hope you and Mr B have a fab time.

We are waiting to hear exchange date so we can tender our resignations, then, like you, up to Scotland to see some friends ( If you find some gems of places to stay at or places you would not recommend, let us know, always good to have info from those in the know :giggle: (y)) , then work our way back down the country seeing other friends, before onto the train and Europe. Well that's the plan, just hope it is not scuppered.

Safe driving and have fun!!

Signed: Jealous 2 in Surrey! :giggle::giggle::giggle:

Hi All,
Our years of planning are coming to fruition and we're also on the cusp of completing on our house sale and start full-timing.
As I've read above, we're currently being strung out by our buyers solicitors and just hoping the sale goes through before the potential lockdown.
As we're intending to go south to the Med, we've then got the covid calamity and likely no deal brexit and 90 days on the continent issues come 1/1/21
As the excitement has been building, so has the anti, the risks and the stress but I doubt we can be dissuaded......!

I know exactly how you feel. Just crack on and do your best. Towards the end for us, we really just said to ourselves..’if it happens it happens, if it don’t it don’t. It was completely out of our hands and control..horrible position to be in.

Well, here we are now, three months in and loving it. Well worth it in the end is all I can say. Good luck.

we are ito our 4th week of full timing and loving it. One question to all you other full timers / soon to be FT's, what do you do about travel insurance for the continent. I am led to believe that if FCO states essential travel only or if countries are on the black list then insurance is invalid. Is this the case or are there insurers out there willing to take the risk and cover you for a premium?

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated

That's good news. It is such a stressful time isn't it. We complete our sale next Friday and have no where to go. So full time from then. Packing is so complicated; things for the motorhome, things for the tip; things for charity shops; things we are giving away; things for storage; and things for the mother-in-law just in case. We are going to try the part time working from the van until we find a house or just stay in the van. As suggested just getting a change of scene every now and then.

Good luck to you all.

Quick update ...... after a couple of false starts (Mr B’s mother sadly passed away 😢 and a few delays due to bad weather from Brittany Ferries) and we are now in .............. Portugal!!!
Arrived on 29th September and have been pootling about in the Tras O Monte region (foraging sweet chestnuts) and are now in the Douro region (sampling plenty of port 🍷). The weather is beautiful and most places/people are COVID aware enough for us to feel safe. Don’t think I’ve ever tried to add photos on the forum before so ....... here goes!
