As Bike Battery Renewal

Good Afternoon,

We own a pair of AS Bikes e bikes.
They are old and, as a consequence their batteries are on their way out.
Other than going back to AS and buying two batteries from them, @£280 each, does any Funster out there have an alternative, possibly by recelling the originals which are 37v, 8amp.

Have you checked ebay most on there are about £150 I doubt they are 37 as the norm forgive batteries is 36v

There are companies out there who will rebuild your battery, however it's not cheap.
Google will find them.

When I was working we used to use SAFT batteries who were manufacturers, they are still about but whether they still re-cell batteries I don't know

If your battery is the square oblong type, then I bought a 36v 15Ah battery off of eBay a couple of years back for £180.
With it being a 15Ah battery, this has greatly improved the range.

Most of these type of "battery" I have opened, the cells are normal 18500 cell, each 3.7 volts. You can even buy them with solder on tabs so easy to assemble

As two on tour says. I too bought a “ silverfish type” battery from eBay seller. 36 volt and cost £150. It’s been excellent. I will be at Bedale if you need more information.

I had a chat with Motorsavers in Corby.
One thing that mentioned was that, if I were to send the battery to them, I also include the charger,

Guess what? Ours shows a green light even when the battery is flat. That means the charger isn't right. I've borrowed one that is now charging the lump up.

Resurrrecting this oldish thread as I have an AS Electrobike Plus, 36v, 26" wheel, bought probably at Peterborough in 2014 which needs a new battery. Looking at those on ebay mentioned above by Two on Tour the dimensions, as in height, appear to be shorter measured to the shoulder than mine which is 410mm. I wonder whether the locking tab will align with the female recess in the back plate. Also the electrical connection in the base is different so is that "discharge plug" intended as a swop for the original feed with a modicum of fettling in the base with the electrics? I can always sell it minus the battery but would be nice to get 50 yards without having to pedal home!

Cost me £450 for a battery for the boss's bike & that was a good price, it's a Bosch and no one rebuilds them. Apparently if you disconnect power from the BMS it bricks it, also had to get a new motor another £450.

Carol had her batteries redone and said they were better than the originals maybe she can advise a contact?

Taken the top off and that looks well sealed with what looks like a glue gun type material and the bottom is well secured at the rubber base although the screws are free. I've messaged the guy on ebay so and await a reply although that will be in Chinese no doubt. Thanks so far!

We have two giant electric bikes ,batteries now useless contacted makes ,post all four batteries back to Germany then to bring them back as new £500 each so that’s £2k plus postage.
and this was about three years ago..
