Are twin beds for old people?

Two doubles preferably one made up and one to make up in seating area

I'd love to have twin beds with a transverse option in our next coach-built
Was there much involved in turning the beds?
Did you have to do much modifications

Sorry I was asking funflair the above question but I didn't include his post in mine

We rented several motorhomes before we bought.
  • This included large island bed (Feet stick out of the rounded corners and there is no storage space)
  • French bed (Too boxed in and right next to the bathroom)
  • Traverse double bed (The inside person has to have a large bladder)
  • Dropdown double (Do not get drunk, the bed wobbles and also prone to failure to go up or down, both of which can ruin a holiday)
We settled on twin beds with the 'love cushion' which gives us the option of a massive king size double (triple!) bed if it's just us, with loads of storage space.
or twin beds for when I go motorhoming with friends and family.

Twins are the best of both worlds

In our motorhome the twin beds are 2m long (6'6") and with the 'love cushion' the bed is 2m wide.

You can sleep either way, laterally or horizontal, or on one steep pitch in Croatia, even with the ramps we could not get level, so slept diagonally, corner to corner

Not for us is the simple answer but all vans are different, the Flair had steps up the the middle of the twin beds and the sprung slatted bases were kept in place with some woodwork and a small chest and drawer at the far end, everything unscrewed and I just made up some new bits of wood and a smaller chest and turned everything sideways.

On the Palace it was quite similar except that the single beds were joined in the middle but with a daft cut out at the foot end allowing you to climb in but effectively stopping you "meeting in the middle" there were some adjustable headrest at the top end which I removed and then needed some more Froli springs to fill the spaces, as I didn't want to ruin the original mattresses we ordered a cutom made one as the bed is now over 2100 mm long, final job was just to cut some bits of wood to keep the bedding in place and cover with some matching leatherette and then create the table area and add the same carpet as the floor.

This would be it as standard.

And this is what we ended up with, the "work in progress" picture is fitting the 360 cameras.

Of course it will all go back to standard when we sell so we can offer the two options.

We came to the conclusion years ago that the only way we would get a decent night's sleep at home was separate rooms, never mind twin beds.

Having put a toe in the water with this motorhoming malarkey, we are now looking for A class with a rear transverse bed for her and a drop down for me.

The option of "your place of mine" is always there ;)

I think that's taking the "love cushion" concept a bit far...:hugs:
- what's that line about "a van being for creating memories?"

We had a lady on the forecourt the other day. They were mid 40's so not old. I asked what layout. She said twin singles or beds at either end. I asked why? Her response..... "I hate him and don't want to sleep with him"
I bet that's a fun van!

My 'Ex' suggested the same, we are divorced and he now lives alone.....(y)

So i'm still searching for an A Class to full time in for a year+. Only a few weeks away from the house selling so need to get cracking.

I really like the rear island beds as you can get in and out both sides and they have nice little wardrobes either side.

The twin beds however seem to either be more popular as the majority for sale are twins. Or everyone bought them and hates them hence more for sale ?

I cant see why anyone would want twins as I definitely dont want to sleep that close to a guest should I have one. If i'm by myself I can star out in the bed and I still sleep entwined on the current girl at night when she's with me.

So my thinking is that twins are for old people that dont "cuddle" anymore ;-)
Or am I missing something here that everyone else has worked out from owning them longer?

Twin beds are much, much better. I am not overly tall (6ft) but double beds are always too short despite what they say. Also you do tend to get your own space and keep your share of the duvet.

We are having singles in our next van that is on order with the option to turn it into a big double for those opportune nights if you get my drift. 😉
If the vans a rockin don't come knockin
