Has anyone used D4Drivers when applying to keep C1 on driving licence. Any information or suggestions from other funsters that have previously applied would be appreciated.
Cheers
Mew.

Thought I'd read somewhere on here that the medicals provided by these mobile docs are no longer acceptable to the DVLA.

I've used D4Drivers. What exactly do you want to know?

Hi, seen that you can no longer use doctors on wheels, was wondering if D4Drivers was still operating and would going to GP be a safer bet.

Mew.

I used D4Drivers last time because my GP messed up the form previously and caused a massive delay with DVLA.

At least mobile doctors deal with the medical side of the C1 application on a daily basis and less likely to make mistakes. The only time it's worth using your GP is if you have boarderline medical conditions. Prior to my first C1 application I had a free NHS healthcheck to assertain my general health condition.

I guess the mobile doctors are even more diligent now following the blacklisting of "doctors on wheels".

Thanks everyone for your feedback, was much appreciated.(y). Think I'll give D4Drivers a call.
Cheers and thanks again.
Mew.

I am coming up to 70 in November. I'm happy to just keep the 3.5 T part of my license and loose the 7 T aspect. Am I right in thinking I do not need to do anything and my license will be automatically renewed and the classes down-rated accordingly. Or, do I need to take some form of action ?

Hi my licence has just been renewed...I used D4 medicals not sure if it's the same company but it has been sent off before the sh.. t hit the fan about these companies. Address as below

Hi Mew, I used D4Drivers £50, as opposed to my Doctors £160. If I do it again I will use my own Doctors. As Wagoner said if there's a medical issue use your own Doctor as the have your records. I had a stent fitted a few years back, I did not have to notify DVLA. Because D4drivers put heart issue on the form, it seems to be holding it up.
DVLA sent back to my form back to my Doctors who filled it in, which probably took longer than If the had done it at the start. I have now been waiting since January. If I have not heard anything by the end of the month I will get in touch with Citizan advice.

You should get a renewal form direct from DVLA . The form they sent me was just for an ordinary licence. So if you are giving up the C1 that form should be all you need to complete.

Hi John, thanks for the reply , sorry to hear you are still waiting, you must be jumping mad.

Am coming up to 70 next May and need to keep my C1 as the van is over 3.5 tons. I held a class1 HGV licence since 1971 but several years ago let it lapse because I did not take my medical.
Would there be a difference between a HGV medical and a 7.5 ton medical as if they are the same I could get my medical now and re apply for my HGV before the deadline in February. This would allow me to set my stall out in advance.

I used D4 drivers with absolutely no problems in April, I have no health issues, but received a letter from DVLA to state they are contacting my doctor . If the are checking all examinations carried out by mobile doctors it's going to take forever. I understand you keep your entitlement to drive while this process is going on, so apart from not having a physical licence they can take as long as they like.

I am currently going through the process here is the story so far:

Got the forms from DVLA and D4 pack from local post office, arranged medical with D4Drivers forms completed by doctor and evrything forewarded to DVLA on 25th June all good I hoped.

9th July receive letter from DVLA - Form incorrectly completed by Doctor please get him to correct and return within 14 days of Date of letter or application will be cancelled.

Contact D4Drivers, the doctor will not be back in my area in the foreseable future they suggest that I send the form to them, they will foreward it to the doctor to amend and return to them when they will send it back to me to return to the DVLA.

Now I have a problem the letter from DVLA is dated 3rd July it was sent 2nd class from swansea and took 6 days to reach me I now have 9 days to put things right which is unlikely to happen using D4 strategy.

Luckily (or is that unluckily) the part that was incorrect is the Visual assessment and DVLA have kindly included a new form that can be completed by an optician rather than the D4 doctor so off I trundle to my usual optician who says a new eye examination is required as DVLA will not accept anything older than 4 months. OK say I lets do it, the earliest appointment available is 24th july and will cost me £19. Date is no good so I have to find another optician.

Call in at Boots no good, Specsave sorry no can do, last chance Vision Express they have a cancellation and can fit me in at 9:55 the following morning hooray. Turn up had the most thorough eye exam I have ever had, form completed and the cost was £0 (perhaps I should buy some glasses form them at some stage) Amended form is back with DVLA 1st class post with signed for delivery.

The moral of this is make sure the doctor fills in the form correctly as any amendments may not be easy if you are using a mobile doctor. Luckily I could get an optician to do the new assessment in time.

John

Yes Mew not to pleased, but as PeterH said. post 21, Under section Rule88, will be on my way tomorrow. First time out in the van.
Say Hi to Mick for me.

I doubt if Citizens advice will be able to help. You are legally allowed to continue to drive on all your current classes under Section 88 of Road Traffic Act.
Any heart condition will probably result in a delay. It doesn’t matter whether your own GP filled in the form or not. For both my husband and I we had to wait and had to undergo further tests which are paid for by DVLA.

Rather than get too stressed about it, I advise thinking of it as getting a free checkup.

It took from last June to this March for me to get my licence. They claim to have employed more people since my husband’s application in 2016 which got to 11 months and towards the end of the Section 88 allowance of 12 months and then we felt we had a valid complaint and went to our MP.

Oh joy, 4 ton van and we both need to sort it out for January, my 1st John's second, hopefully his will be easy this year now we know the GP's opinion is more important than the consultants!!!
I will need the eye test, had it done recently as i had broken my specs, was told that there should be no problem over the eye test unless something dramatic happens before now and then.
Hope all going through it get sorted soon.
as a P. S. the GP's opinion was a copy of the letter that the consultant sent him, which DVLA already had. Biggy is having no physical licence, ok in UK but wouldn't like to try it abroad.

I got a letter from the DVLA and as I didn't want to keep my C1 filled the form in online. Very easy. They even used my passport photo and I received the licence in 3 days even tho they quote 2 weeks. Very efficient.

I was riding about with a Photo Copy of the old one in my wallet from February until the 12th of June Last. I too Fell Foul of the latest diktat from the Swansea Kremlin, which means that your DOCTOR can no longer just copy the results for your last Eye Test onto the form and countersign it. It HAS to be the optician who carried out the test, who signs the Vision part of the D4, and It CANNOT be more than 3Months Old!. I had to go and have a second in a Year Eye Test, at MY expense and then Wait for the optician to come back from a long weekend break, to countersign the D4. Merely sending the ACTUAL (original) and signed test certificate Results Form with the D4 was not acceptable. IT MUST be on the D4 and MUST be countersigned BY the OPTICIAN who CARRIES OUT the test.

DVLA. is DEFINITELY NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Problem for John was his sleep apnoea, it is monitored yearly by the hospital, machine checked, calibrated and hours used recorded, if insufficient he would lose his licence. DVLA thought his GP whom he never sees would be more informed :Eeek:

Update on my application. The revised vision check was received at DVLA last Thursday. Today I received my licence with C1 retained. The expiry date of the entitlement is set at 3 years (11/08/2022)from the expiry of the (12/08/19) not 3 years from the date of issue of the new licence as done have reported.
So it's a hats off to DVLA from me.
