Hi .... can anyone recommend an app for tracking your tour. My wife used Track my Tour last time but the mapping bit wasn’t very good and only you can see it.

I looked at one called Polar Steps but that had very mixed reviews.

ideally it would track your progress on a map, be able to store text and photos and let others see where you are.

TIA. Chris

sounds like a great idea. would be good for us too !

We used to use Autoroute on a small EePc on the dashboard which would track every movement and worked totally offline. But MS stopped supporting it and I then had activation problems. But if you have a small computer with a solid state drive it is fantastic. If you can find it for not a lot of money it is worth a try. It still works on my home PC and I still use it for route planning.
I tried PolarSteps but found it very intrusive and required Internet for the maps. I also felt that they were stalking me. I really don't like social media at all.
If I could find something like Autoroute I would jump at it.
Keep us posted on what you find.

Like Steve we use Autoroute with a GPS receiver, you can get CD's on eBay for £12 make sure you get Autoroute 2013 mapping is a bit out of date but good enough.

Examples from our last trip.

I use Polarsteps and I have had no problems with it. I've actually met up with some other users of it who were recommended by a friend and you can see their travel log as well if you add them as a friend. Got some good tips for places to visit.

Thanks all..... I think I will try Polar Steps as it was a simple app that I wanted. The internet is no problem as we normally travel with the mifi box on to stream radio. I like the idea of the kids being able to monitor it.

Hi Lenny,
Have you managed to get past the activation problem? Whot do you run Autoroute on while travelling?
When my EeePC failed I put an SSD in my little Tosh Netbook bu Autoroute detected a change of machine and wouldn't activate.
You could message me to not clutter this thread.

my son is currently in india as part of a three month tour. The polar steps is a great way for you to share photos and locations with some narrative (like an on line journal) but i also use the google maps "share location" feature so that i can see exactly where he is (assuming he has 4g) when ever i need to

If you have location turned on on your phones, Google can be used to track your routes and locations going back years. Ideal to prove that you were somewhere on a particular time and date. And it needs no programming or payments, it just works in the background

fascinating to go back over what you did in previous months/years/days

passed through that pretty village that you can't remember the name of? simply check the route you took

I use a GPS device and save tracks as .GPX files. You can then load them to many different mapping systems to print it on a map. At least I'm not advertising my whereabouts on the web.
