Had planned to travel to the southern lakes at half term but now having second thoughts.
Travelling from one low risk area to another but becoming increasingly uncomfortable as things are changing so quickly.
Planned to be totally self sufficient, and spend most of our days walking (more likely in the rain no doubt) seeing more sheep than people.
Now wondering if I should add it to my long list of cancelled holidays.

Why wouldn’t you?

We need to adjust to life with Covid and you are taking every precaution.

We are off for a week, no idea where yet as the situation unfolds but going we are. Lots of walking and using the SUP. No busy places etc.

We are going for a few days to Ullswater. Like you we will keep ourself's to ourself's. Walking mostly. All precautions fully adhered to.

An alternative view would be that we shouldn’t adjust to life with COVID-19 and carry on. We should instead protect ourselves and others and wait for the vaccine.

You are quite correct and your view is welcome.

I don’t intend shutting myself or my family away for years until a vaccine is widely available. I will instead take sensible precautions and adhere to all scientific and government advice and get on with it.

I don’t mean that flippantly, I have seen first hand the devastation the virus causes. I haven’t been in a pub since March and won’t break any of the eminently sensible rules that have been put in place.

I think what is being suggested does protect themselves and others and a vaccine might never be developed?

That is a valid view, and if you choose to stay put and stay safe it will work for you

I am going to travel, stay safe, stay away from others to protect them and keep spending money and not going round the bend. If a vaccine comes, I will wait my turn for it.

Stay well and stay safe and stay sane.....all important in my view

The boffins appear to be very confident about the vaccine, which has already been developed. Sir Patrick Valance, Chief Scientific Officer, said yesterday that its possible that some people could be vaccinated before Christmas, with a bigger roll out next Spring. It’s not long to wait really.

We’ve spent more money than usual, this online shopping is quite addictive. 😁

You might be waiting, shut away for a very long time.
Very few successful vaccines have been developed, influenza a case in point. There needs to be a new one each year with mixed success.

Mr D Trump said this morning (so it must be true) a vaccine is imminent, within weeks. (yes i know the Yanks will get it first). But it means others will follow soon after...............if it's true.
Anyway, we are going to enjoy our few day's in the Lake District from Monday.

Actually vaccination is the number public health intervention, in terms of saving lives and improving health world wide. In this country we have a long running and highly successful vaccination programme. Moreover, I’ll take the view of the Chief Scientific Officer, thanks.

Just been on the local news this am. that the new bridge at Pooley Bridge is open to traffic (y)
That was quick...... :pinocchio:

They did mention not to use that road in as the bridge was closed. As it happens we would not have gone in that way anyway. But nice to know it's open again.

If folk were waiting indoors for a vaccine to cure the common cold they would have been there for a long, long time.

I suggest the policy of stop worrying and start living...

Thanks for all your replies, this morning we decided that we would be going to Eskdale😀
Will take all necessary precautions, since March we've been so very careful and plan to meet nobody if possible.
So I will apologise in advance to any fellow walkers we see but we will be giving you a wide birth!
Stay safe and enjoy your holiday.
Good times will return🌈
