Anticipation, expectation, trepidation!

Typically about half an hour after setting off Bev will say, ‘that’s good’ to which I always ask ‘what?’ And always the same reply ‘I have remembered what I have forgotten’

😁 sad little life we live 😁 but we are happy 😁

We are off again on Sunday, but the last emotion - a pit in the stomach- will plague us as usual,
until we are settled into our journey.
Anyone else feel the same way? We can't be alone!
Yep, every time👍

I used to get the pit in the stomach before setting off on a cross-channel passage when we had our yacht, mainly because as skipper, it was all down to me if something went wrong or the sea conditions changed for the worse. It’s also because of the need, when sailing off, to be almost entirely self-reliant, which is part of the charm of sailing. I loved the passage (as long as nothing broke or went wrong) and the arrival in a new port. Mrs MTV preferred the arriving bit!

I’ve never had the pit feeling when setting off in the MH. We can go places, each taking a share of the driving and now both enjoy the whole experience. It’s fairer on both of us, but I do still keep my ICC up to date so we can charter!

Yes, but not as bad as the time we set off for Norway two months late after a traumatic limp mode episode. How far will we get before something happens? Five weeks and 4k miles later we were home safe.

Every time - I consider it a good thing. Same big MH and motorbike trips
Settles after 3 miles once on motorway.

Thank goodness for that .I thought it was just me .
happy to book and pay for sites and plan the journey but the starting bit was alway the hardest bit.

Same for me.
Excitement yes. Trepidation not in the slightest. Motorhoming is a doddle after 27 years spent sailing offshore with the family aboard as at any time I can park the m/h and 'catch a bus home'. My only worry is running out of tea bags.

I get a bit anxious we've not forgotten anything, I make lists in the week before departure, also put some things in the van.

Yep, every time. Things like "have I packed that?", "do I need this", "what if" etc etc. Then about 45 minutes into the journey, all forgotten and ready to enjoy.

I think it could be in the most of us it’s an age thing while we all love to travel and explore…
But we’re leaving the safety of our own domains.
This is the only answer that I can come up with .

unless others can think of a better reason.

but Its all right when as others have said a few miles down the road.

I have similar experience in difference between yacht and MH.

I only did one cross-channel passage as skipper of my own yacht and that was overnight Solent -Le Havre. 12 hours so set course and let the tide takes up the channel and back. Flat calm all the way. Boat was in Greece after that and passages were easier, or if dodgy I stayed in the bar till the next day.

MH trips are easier, because one knows that if anything breaks one puts on the handbrake and calls recovery, not possible at sea.

So my answer in a MH is excitement? - Yes, trepidation? - No.

It was always excitement for me but as time has gone by it has become trepidation although I settle after a while on the road.

Safe happy journey JB .

When I jump in the car I don't give the journey a second thought and just drive.
When I get in the motorhome I am always a little nervous I guess because I don't drive it so much and its fairly large. Once i'm on the road for an hour it feels normal!!

Booked first trip to France and whilst I'm looking forward to it I am a little nervous about what could go wrong or what could fall off (the MH not me) ::bigsmile: !! I'm sure we will love it!!

Absolutely!

Never sleep a wink at anchor even with 2 hooks out!

The germans and Saffers have two words: Heimweg and Wegweg (subEd check spelling)
Translated as strong desire to get home and strong desire to be away.

Like a spring restricted by a rubber band - constant to and fro: back home then immediately wanting to be on the road then homesick again!

There are two points in the journey that are important. The first one is where you know you are too far away from home to go get the things you have forgotten. The second is when we get to the Chunnel and know that we haven’t missed our crossing. Then the real holiday can begin!

We have this dreaded feeling every time we pack up to go away. If someone said you can’t go we would jump at the opportunity to back down - BUT as soon as we get in the van and drive away from the house excitement kicks in and all trepidation disappears! Strange isn’t it?

Same here ……👍🏻

We overcome most of that by having duplicates for nearly everything - kitchen, bedding, towels, so when we arrive home what needs washing gets done and put back(our MH is well insulated so no damp). Even outdoor gear is mostly duplicated.

That leaves some clothing to decide on and in 2 months we rarely use half of what we take. Then food, booze, and documents of course.

Job done.
