hi I have just booked my Hab Check and they offered me a water system flush which they say will remove a bacterial film that can build up in the water pipes? Apparently it is necessary if your moho is warranted but as mine is 2004 that’s not relevant.
Does anybody have any input on this treatment and whether it will be worth paying £100 for it when having the Hab Check or £200 separately?

I would question how much you can trust them with your MH after trying this on.

Just flushed out our fresh (and as a result of draining it into the waste, it as well) with Puriclean <£6.00 for a 400g tub (does c270 litres).
Just pre-mix the recommended quantity of Puriclean in a watering can (2-3 litres) and pour into fresh filler. Fill fresh tank up and draw through both hot and cold taps. Leave for a while.
I filled fresh at 20.00 and emptied at 08.00. Drained waste down at 14.00.
Easiest £100 I've saved!;)(y)

From a previous thread regarding puriclean

Add it to your fresh water (full), pull through taps and shower, go for a drive to agitate and leave for a few hours.

Then run your taps to fill waste water tank, drive to agitate again and then leave another few hours.

Empty all tanks, refill with fresh and rinse through.

Empty tanks again. Done.

You don’t have to agitate but I thought it would help so could just be done when parked with hose/bucket

Ha ha thought so. Thanks

They said they had a special pressure machine that would clean all the pipes. I said won’t that blow all the seals on the pipes? She didn’t really give me an answer.

Can anybody recommend a mobile mechanic in Surrey who can come to the house and do a Hab Check? Failing that one I can take the Motorhome to.

Ah! Maybe the guys quoting £100 were paying six burly navvies to shuggle the motorhome side to side to save on diesel?:)

Ha! Pappajohn, your scepticism suggests that next you'll be telling us all that there's no such thing as the Easter Bunny and the tooth fairy! What next, no Santa Claus?

It was AWS who said it! I went to them as they were supposed to be the recognised group?
Well it's a piece of ..................

I’m looking at someone else now. If they try to rip me off at the booking stage they will probably try it on again. I don’t need the agro. Thanks everybody for the input.

Thanks I might try that. I always drain it all down after a trip and leave taps and tank open to dry. I put Aquasol in the tank for 24 hours before a trip and then change the water. There aren’t usually any problems.

She went very quiet when I said I needed to go on the Motorhome Forum to get advice and would get back to her. I will but probably to cancel the Hab Check serve em right

Do it yourself using white vinegar. In fairness to the workshop offering the service the price quoted includes the Labour time to do the job, not just the "treatment" .

D.

Never heard such a load of tosh.
I descale our boiler once a year with white wine vinegar (30p Lt in France) & run it through the whole system it does a pretty good job.

Yup the vast majority of the cost will be the labour for doing it ... just another way to extort money from the unsuspecting ... I bet they catch some people with it!

Agree with all of the above; it reminded me of yesterday when I booked the car in for MOT (Volvo dealership as an engine check light requires investigation and deleting); the lady on the end of the phone said " do you want us to put in an additive that makes the fuel burn cleaner and lower the emissions for the test?" I asked how that was going to work if it was added at the same time of the test since the engine needs to run for a while to get it through the system ..... embarrassed silence. I only use VPower or similar anyway which have extra detergents so the engine will be as clean as a whistle anyway.

I wonder, like the OP, how many people have been effectively fleeced in this manner by the dealership?

I use white vinegar for all sorts. My partner was complaining that his flat smelt like a chip shop ungrateful git.

Theres worse things to smell of than a chip shop.......mmmmmm

Our water system gets treated every time we fill up, courtesy of the water authority (UK anyway), Quote below from water company web site.

Martin

"Small amounts are added to the water as it leaves the treatment works to kill any harmful bacteria present and to keep the water safe on its way to your tap".

Hi,
How much vinegar for a 150l fresh water tank??
