Another UK Rip Off

Ahh the old comparing countries problem.

Spain has lower labour rates, power rates, property taxes etc.
Things sold in Spain have to be sold cheaper than they may actually be valued at to get the sale.
Then there is currency conversions.

They will always be cheaper over there than here.

How much of that £843 is due to labour rates, electric costs, building taxes, business rates etc etc etc. And how much is due to the discount for Spain?

I never make country to country comparisons. I trade cross border and see the effects of distortions like this regularly.

Best just to look at the product itself and see if you can get it cheaper at another supplier in the UK, that will really tell you if it is a rip off in the UK.
I Trade cross border too, very little difference other than trying to get it delivered into Europe (World-Wide_Other Barely an issue)

But Consider this, Dacia Duster Essential

UK Price €21,630
Spain, €20,000

So take into consideration Extra Shipping price to UK, you can understand a difference.

But Dacia wouldn't get away with charging 80% more in the UK, like Costco are.

When supply is constrained they don't need to drop the price.

Dacia has supply problems so they set the price they want to achieve and just ship them to the market where there is sufficient demand.
No need to give discounted rates to Spain.

I also suspect Spain has much higher taxes and registration fees for cars.

Yeah rip off spain🤣🤣🤣🤣

Get p1553d off everyone knocking UK if it's so good elsewhere go. We all want a good standard of living and get paid as much as possible then moan when others want the same and have to charge accordingly.

If it such a rip off and you can get it cheaper elsewhere? Why don't they set up a business selling at the mid way point. The will rake it in surely :p :D :giggler:

£1057 Costco Spain - £1,900 Costco UK = £843 difference. Zero import duty. So why not ship a few over from Spain and sell them here. make a big profit in rip off Britain :p

No just fed up with everyone who keeps knocking UK, ok isn't perfect nowhere is but it's better than 90% of the world. Keep knocking what things cost, try running a business even a small one and see how much things cost.

I have been in business for the last 35 years, still run three.

I have made many posts on here about the cost of running such.

£600 to run the surface water off a small 6 space car park
£22,000 business rates
£72,000 Rent

Fleet running costs, Insurances, Vehicle Public and Employee liability the whole works.

All that before I even switch a light on, fill a tank or pay the wage bill and Emplyers NI. Now lumbered with SSP.

So you understand why things cost more, compate your costs to those in Spain then you'll understand why it's cheaper there, so I don't understand why you posted this?

you must still be making money or you would not be doing it

I'm guessing the whole thing made and packed in China, so it can only be the middle men who the setting the price in each country.
That has, in the past, always been the person that makes most profit.
Why would it be any different in today's world? 🤔

For a comparison, chatting to some Dutch Ikea staff and they go to Bulgaria for their * buys* what costs 100 euros in Holland is 20 euros in Bulgaria, same stuff , same store and staff discount as well!
I wonder if they fancy IKEA reducing their wages in Holland to what they pay in Bulgaria!

Check again
I suggest you do.
We have a zero tariff and quota deal with them since we signed the deal on 24th December 2020 which came into force on the 1st May 2021.

It is called the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA)

Unless I am completely mistaken and misremember this major event????

If we didn't have this deal in place. Then we would be charging the EU tariffs and they would be charging us. The remainers would have gone nuts and been shouting from the rooftops about a hard brexit.

They have no value other than what they can be sold at. And it isn't a loss.
Spain has lower labour rates, power rates, property taxes etc.
But the product is made elsewhere and shipped to both countries ?£1=1,50€
Always been the same as when the € was introduced
UK Price €21,630
Spain, €20,000
Spanish price is excessive if correct.
if it's so good elsewhere go.
I did,and without any income for 17 years
We all want a good standard of living
Roof over your head, food, water ,car what more is needed apart from 🌞 ?
get paid as much as possible
Why? I thought there's no point to any of this and gave up working. No income for 17 years and lived on the proceeds from sale of house .
Zero import duty.
News to me?
try running a business even a small one
I did and charged75% less than anyone else and still earned a decent living
and see how much things cost.
When you are not on the merry go round anymore and looking in from the outside , you can see that prices and costs in the uk are exceedingly excessive. compounded mainly by councils and profligate business rates, commercial refuse, etc followed by rents.

So you understand why things cost more, compate your costs to those in Spain then you'll understand why it's cheaper there, so I don't understand why you posted this?
Because the price is excessive

They do charge me for anything I have sent here.import taxes + handling charge + vat. & I mean anything .

From the UK?

To be clear we are talking purely about buying from the EU if you are in the UK and visa versa.

Wasn't Dunster House the manufacturer of a black caravan, with a centre lounge. Don't think it caught on!
Because it was rubbish and looked like it had been built by the odd job man ;)

Must depend what it is. For instance you could freely import a used motorhome from the EU free of tax but not any more and there was no real limit on booze. We haven't got the US style tariffs but it's not the same as it was.

Free of tax? I never said that. You still have to pay any VAT.

Import duty would only apply if the vehicle was "built" outside of the EU.

We are getting into rules of origin stuff there.

I just got curious as to how much it would cost me for my business expenses in spain.
My commercial unit is £450 a month
I could get this in space for £300 which is MUCH bigger.

I will go through some other expenses later.
