Another FLT spot gets height barriers

It's okay, you can park in the holiday park and walk to the beauty spot!

Sounds like a good thing to me, preventing travellers from camping on the beach, which prevents others from parking there

Peel council in the Isle of Man did it at Fenellla Beach a couple of years ago & now people can park their cars in the car park & enjoy the beach

So this is what they said.

""Those driving campervans and motorhomes have previously misused the car park to stay for extended lengths of time instead of using the nearby holiday parks."

Sounds a bit like the holiday park owners have been complaining. They don't seem to be able to understand that those who park in places like that are not going to use their sites anyway.
All they are doing is driving visitors away from the area.

So why can't they just restrict parking to a max of 24 or 48 hours no return within 2 or something similar.

Pleased we only live 20 miles from a ferry port.

Smacks of the "USUAL". Put in a total BAN (Barrier). When INTELLIGENT thinking would have solved the "issue". Hey-Ho. Britains Bureaucracy at "work" (Oxymoron) Again. What is wrong with Putting a 24hr Limit on?. There is probably a ticket machine there already?. Knowing most L-A`s, who charge for any sort of "parking!.

If once travel restrictions are relaxed a little places like that are swamped with campers as I suspect there will be a lot more going up soon.

When we had our last VW T5 converted by the time the pop top was fitted it was 2020mm and I wanted it below so we had it lowered by VW to -30mm so brought us under the magical 2m.
Some of the height barriers and underground car parking in France is bang on 2m.

there were four vans virtually living there typical crustys one was a old horse box and one a van with stuff stuck all over it rather than deal with those they ruin it for all

I don't know the area well, but putting a limit on length of stay would need policing - that would add cost, which would be met by locals living in the area, via their council tax - personally, I don't think that's fair

From the report, it seems there are places to camp locally

The problem with height barriers is they will only affect the law abiding..
Height barriers are nothing to 'a certain group of people', as they simply remove them !

Would only need policing occasionally, a couple of people get fined it would soon be mentioned in the apps, so thereafter self policing.

Only if you want to use a campsite.

The "Standard" way of dealing with ANY Parking issue by any L-A. is to introduce charging. Putting some of that "fine" cash back into something that keeps (even if only a handful of ice creams) commerce potentially in "your" bailiwick rather that "Fred`s" next door, is better for communities than nothing.

That's what I think about the Free Aires in France, we only spend 3-5 euro in the Boulanger but if 40-50 Motorhomes do that each week it the difference between a small family firm staying in business or going bump.
