I am sure that this type of thread has been posted many times on here before. We are at the NEC today for a look around, and nothing else!!! Or thats what we agreed at home last night.
However, 3 hours in, and we have just placed a deposit down on a New Van.
Why is it that one looses all sense of reasoning when at these type of shows, and the wallet seems to open up all to easy??
Anyway, we are very very happy with our new purchase. The deal they offered us on our existing Van, was just too good a price to turn down.

OMG but congratulations! What have you bought?

OMG but congratulations! What have you bought?
An Auto-Trail V-Line 635SE. It replaces the one that we already have, but although AT get a lot of stick on here, we have been absolutely delighted with ours, and over the last two and a half years, have had hardly any issues with it, and its a layout that suits us perfectly.
With a few small improvements made for the 2020 model, were more than happy to go with another one.
So, we are quite excited at the moment?

Oh no ?
We are going on Thursday and we have agreed just to have a look around and nothing else...
I’m starting to get worried ?
Congratulations on your new purchase. ??

So have we ....
But we def WONT be buying a new van ....

Congratulations! We went into a dealership in Belgium to look at upholstery and came away with a new to us van too!

Hope you enjoy your new one , do you have to wait ages for it or is it there?

Congratulations ,I know the feeling we went to the show at Norwich two years ago 'to have a look' and ended up buying a new IH 600RD . Expensive ,in fact the most expensive purchase I have ever made but haven't regretted it for one minute .

Not knocking the op , congratulations in fact, but if someone is happy with the van you have , why do you even think of going to such a place, what for?

We bought a new Apache 700 and are absolutely delighted with it.
No problems with the last 2 hab checks.

A few warranty issues were fixed almost immediately by Marquis Devon. Couple of strip lights failed, a cupboard door catch replaced and a fridge repair. Non of which were really cause for concern.

Enjoy your new van!

I was wondering that this morning ?

The last I visited the show we bought a new Carthago . This year I managed to only buy a new hat and new wineglass. Worn the old ones out. Mentioning expenses, did anyone else notice the delivery charge for the huge Morelo thing ?

Hopefully around Feb/March time, but how long is a piece of string?
On top of the deal that we struck, auto-trail are also paying the first years road tax if ordered at the show, so, all in all, it was just too good a deal to miss.
We had also been and looked at a Vantage, which we loved, and would of seriously considered, bar the sales guy taking the pi@@ on the part ex figure. They really do think you are naive at times, which winds me up intensely! However, its his loss?
Although we have ordered the same van again as we already have, there have been improvements made which we liked, and at the end of the day, there is just something very special about having a new one? I know you pay for the pleasure, but life is short, and you carn’t take it with you.

I'm just wondering exactly what this new Tax law is for?
What is the purpose and what are the powers that be trying to achieve?

First thing that springs to mind is people won't buy a new van because of this extra cost so the industry will suffer, workers will lose jobs, manufacturers will cut corners somewhere in the build to compensate.

It really can't be anything to do with emissions as no matter how much you levy as a charge the emissions will be the same, so it has to be that somewhere there has been a meeting and the decision is just to extract more money from the people on the wrapped up in "oh we care about the planet cobblers" so we don't want you to drive an air polluting vehicle because you are poisoning everyone but you can if you pay us a large tax.

The hypocrisy is staggering and yet we go along with it.

There are some serious failings in the way that these rules are dreamed up and enforced..

I drive a company BMW i3s electric car. It is the Ranger Extender or "Rex" but still, the emissions are super low... because the car is over the £40k threshold however it's in the premium car bracket with all the Chelsea Tractors and gas guzzlers etc. and therefore attracts a £450 per year charge... madness IMHO

As my dear departed father used to tell me, "Behind every scheme there is a Schemer"

Another irony of the new taxation arrangements - the vehicles that will be clobbered (or to be more precise, their owners), are the ones meeting the latest and highest ever environmental standards on emmisions... Go figure?

I realise, this is normally how new road taxes are introduced, to avoid retrospective application.

And no doubt, the powers that be would argue the change is just correcting a long-standing anomaly, where motorhome road tax was effectively discounted under the previous arrangements compared to private cars costing £40k+.

Just wondering if your new van will be liable for the higher taxation?

Also wondering if other Funsters have purchased a van subject to the new VED rates?

Will the new tax force vehicle manufacturers to find ways of reducing the emissions below 255g/km or is this impossible? If it does the government could say their actions were justified.
