Hi All, Late decision to head over to France this weekend, heading for Lake Annecy, any recommendations for a campsite at the lake...

TIA

I’ll watch this thread for interest.

I’ve been to Annecy a number of times but stayed in Hotels. I’ll be going later this year in the MoHo so looking for some suggestions too.

There is a superb aire at southern tip of the lakes directly next door to the large tennis court club and sports centre that was only opened a year or two ago. I'm sorry l can't recall the name of the site.
Update : the site is on the Route de Annecy at Doussard.

There are a few down there

Rives du Lac. You can swim in the lake and cycle the excellent pathway to Albertville. It’s one of my favourite places. I am assuming you have a bike and if you have then the col de la forclaz Is worth the effort. Great view overlooking the lake and you can watch the brave and enthusiastic hurl themselves , attached to parachutes, off the cafe balcony.

We were there in may this year and found If you haven't booked it was difficult to get a site near Annecy and the Aires were pretty dire and packed to the rafters, don't know what it will be like in August. We ended up in a campsite about 3 miles out of Annecy on the Route de Annecy which is the road that runs down the west side of the lake. There is a cycle route that runs down that side and good bus links to Annecy.

We stayed in Annecy last year and it was quite difficult to find a site. However we used this one (link below) a little south of Annecy and I wouldn't have any problems staying there again. We used a scooter to get to Annecy town center but it was an easy cycle and there is a boat from nearby but that takes a circular route round the lake so id not fast.

Le Lac Bleu at Doussard. We go most years but last year we didn’t book as we were in Italy.
Decided to go there for a few days in August as Italy was too hot and just rocked up.
They squeezed us in and it was a pitch right by the lakeside.
I’ve booked this year and I’ll be there in about 10 days after Switzerland.
It’s a cracking site and we’ve stopped at a couple around the lake and this one is by far the best.

They won’t take bookings in August so you’ll just have to rock up and try your luck.

If you want a campsite try ACSI.

We have stayed at the Annecy municipal campsite:

It's a fairly short downhill walk along a path from there to the old town centre. Coming back the path is uphill and unlit so you will need a torch after dark.

Another vote for Le Lac Bleu. Possibly the best toilet/showers we have used. On a bus route to Annecy and there is an excellent cycle path as well.

Stayed there too. Recommended.

Good luck. You may need it to get near Annecy this weekend.
I would relook at the predicted logjams for travelling, heed the advice of making sure there was a space available if you do go to Annecy and then change my plans and head to lac d'orient.
If you go for it make sure you have a B plan for both travelling and being prepared that there is no space near Annecy left.
We were there in June and tried all the local spots with no joy. After an hour we gave up and went to Seyssel. I didnt try any campsites

Rives du Lac for me but would need to book and would be surprised if they have spaces . Is Noire for the routes in France this weekend so pretty horrible and for the first time prévu for the whole of France

Rives du lac is a very nice site, new toilets/showers, washing up area, washing machines, bread shop, once a week van arrived and cooks chicken, potatoes etc, boat trip off jetty to annecy, we did book for 5 nights but stayed 7, loved it

Hello, we travelled through Annecy yesterday the intention was to stay a couple of nights there but it was just impossible. Forget the Aires they are full, in fact motorhomes were double parked blocking in others. Forget campsites as well they are full. Also Annecy was so busy the trafic queues through the town were awful. A much better option will be le Bourget Du Lac, we stayed in the commercial Aire the night before which is part of the adjacent campsite and it was really nice and relaxed. Also if you consider travelling down futher through the Alps, down towards Chamoinx then the D1212 road from Annecy to St Gervais Les Bain is closed at Ugine and there is a long detour over the mountain. It is quite do-able with your motorhome and the views are incredible but add an extra hour to your journey.

Many thanks for the responses and information on Aires & potential Campsites. We are booked on the tunnel for 1:00am Sunday tomoz, will head down and wing it and see how it goes, to us that's all part of the journey and Fun of having a MoHo, though would like to get a decent base if we can.....

At the bottom of the lake. Been there several times, great location. There's several sites by the road heading back up to Annecy via Talloires on the eastern side.

Here at the moment, everywhere seems full, I guess it’ll quieten down once the Dutch start to hom

Well we arrived today Monday morning at Annecy, drove down to camping la lac Bleu bit of traffic about but no stop start driving. Pulled up to reception on spec and they had two pitches free so booked on for 10 nights, reception staff really helpful, presently weather gorgeous.....

There’s always loads of Dutch there ??

After we’ve been to Annecy we’re going to Maggiore, it’s the same there.

I reckon there’s hardly anyone in Holland during August!

May I also jump in.
We would also like any info for Annecy area in September, heading down that way for the 1st 2 weeeks
