Tomorrow we shall have ridden on the little yellow train and are thinking of going on to Andorra. Has anyone whose been in the Pyrenees around Andorra any must see/do suggestions before we start heading homewards.

Lovely area. Andorra town is very small and can be very hot at this time of year. I remember being there when a gentle breeze was like a fan in an oven! I was in full m/cycle gear:eek:

Just check that your insurance covers you. So do, some don't

We like having a walk around the main town doing a bit of shopping then having lunch, after that we head high up to a wilding spot.Superb for star watching and total quiet.

If you want cheap spirits then you won't beat it, beer/wine isn't cheap though, oh fuel is so make sure you top up! Some lovely views on the way North from Andorra, absolutely beautiful.

About on a par with Gibraltar, so-called duty free shops and not much else. Also be aware that sometimes the police will stop people at the border and relieve them of their fags, drinks etc if over the allowance.

I recall Andorra being brutal on parking. Traffic wardens day and night as essentially the country is about 100 yards wide (the rest is mountains). They whistles and shouted at anyone with the temerity to slow down never mind park!
That said there must be the odd bit of parking somewhere. They also seemed to stop ALL french and spanish traffic at the border to prevent smuggling. Long time ago so might have changed.

When we were there many years ago it was 2 miles of neon rip off. Duty free tat. I do not know if it has improved, but I doubt it.
And building sites, roadworks (nice scenery though)

I stopped off on my motorbike. It's just a concrete and tarmac duty free shopping centre defacing the beautiful Pyrenees. Nothing to go there for unless you enjoy booze and tat shopping.
Have a virtual drive around there on Google Street View to see what I mean.

Just go to fill up with fuel.
Lots of fuel stations and very good prices.
Appart from that not much to see or do.
The scenery around Andorra is beatiful on a clear day.
The drive up the CO-4 up to the Spanish border is a nice drive. But it's a dead end unless you have a 4x4 or a Moto Enduro. But fantastic views..

Park here and you are right in the middle of town, excellent deals on booze too. The paid car parks are very tight if you have a big van

We've been checked when leaving Andorra and they wanted to see the receipts and the stuff relating to them which was in the back of the camper under the bed so easy to show them. If each of you buy your individual allowances in booze etc therefore keep the receipts to hand and leave the items easily checkable (out of sight from prying eyes though).

Hypothetically if you want to risk it and buy more than your allowances don't buy it all at the same time but go back and do it as a separate transaction from your 'legit' stuff, but make sure you have some places to hide it well in the MH ... apparently under sink bathroom cabinets are easy places to hide stuff behind other toiletries etc ... not that I'm suggesting you do this of course ... especially as I don't drink so no need to do it ... :sneaky:

It was winter when we were there, I got a going over going into Spain, I asked why and they said they were after Gold and Cigarettes. Anybody who thinks they will be buying gold there, will end up with Tungsten , gold plated to look like it. Rip off as is most gold on the retail market.

We have been a few times, always get stopped on way out last year we had 30L wine everal bottles of whisky and other spirits. Any cigarettes/tobacco? We hadn't so it wa a case of have a nice trip, couple behind were asked if they were with us said yes and were waved through. We stayed at Andora LaVella, yes some 'tat' shops but so has everywhere the spirits were really good value, site was pleasant and we blagued a discount. Fuel less than 1 euro a L route down into France was interesting when the tunnel was shut, we do pay the toll to cut off a big chunk. Have never queued to get into Andorra from Spain, but the queues the other way can be miles long.

Was in Andorra last weekend, diesel Euro 1.009 litre, make sure you purchase near Spanish end or at least before you leave the top of the mountains towards France as I didn't see a fuel stop after the peak. Lots of charged parking suitable for my MoHo (7.02m). Wine. food & beer not cheap but gadgets can be. Views are spectacular.
