Just spotted this for tonight. Sunday the 16th January.

Sue Perkins’ Big American Road Trip

9pm, Channel 4

Continuing the trend of packing off celebrities in a campervan for a couple of weeks, Sue Perkins embraces the nomad life in California and Colorado. From learning how to burlesque with fellow adventurers to taking a tearful moment to watch a deer prancing around in the wild, her first of two legs – Pacific Coast Highway to Yosemite – is highly enjoyable and will likely inspire a holiday booking or two tonight. Did route 66 4 years ago in hire car and motels, had such a good time, was planning another road trip for 2020 for yellow stone, mount Rushmore, but COVID stop that....

Recommended, if doing in car and motels, just book first and last hotel and just see where you end up each night, plenty of motels to choose from.........

Sadly rather annoying woman after the first 20+mins.
I am surprised how "small" the van is for the USA. It looks like a Boxer/Ducato vehicle base.
Also, very few facilities ie no cooker, no shower, not even sure if the van has a portable loo? Looked up the manufacturer, RAM and some do have a shower fitted under the bed after lifting the bed up.

Yes very annoying jibberish but but brings back incredible memories of our RV trips over there, fortunately we had real RV motorhomes and not a half finished van conversion.

I'll be watching this to see what the California sites are like. Lucky to be off there with a friends RV for a few weeks soon.

We just said the same, but as we have been to Colorado many times and got married there, will looked forward to that episode.....

The basic nature and lack of facilities seems par for the course, for "van lifers", if it was me, I would want decent cooking, and toilet /shower as a minimum.

RAM is a Stellantis (Fiat Chrysler) brand, the ProMaster is the US version of the Ducato. So it's just the base rather than the conversion being done by RAM - you could get a RAM van with any level of conversion like over here. It is surprisingly basic for a vehicle hired for a celebrity road trip show.

Not sure if anyone aware, or, tried it...... we have for a few years done a 'delivery' service for Cruise America.com.... you keep an eye on their website and look at 'Factory deliveries" so we fly out to Chicago, collect the van next day and dependant on where & how long, we have had some fantastic holidays, they range from $30 - $60 per night, most extras are thrown in including the mileage.
We have done L.A. X 2..... Orlando X 2......... San Francisco X 1.

Its a wonderful opportunity to drive across America and to see different cultures.

If I hadn't been poorly and have to sell my house to get insured, we would be off !!!!!!!!

Our last Cruise America re location was from Chicago to Las Vegas , one month and 3k miles , brilliant trip.
Our contact in U.K. is The Motorhome experts who Mail us lists every spring.

I’ve done 8 months in a fifth wheel from Rhode Island to California then all along the west coast, Las Vegas (ugh!), and canyons and lakes and, and..... Fabulous country for scenery but I struggled with a lot of the American culture. Highly recommended as 80% of the National Parks are in the West and buying an annual pass was an enormous money saver. Ahh, memories!

Can’t believe they gave it air time. Utter rubbish. I thought we were going to see some spectacular sights. If I wanted to watch those type of van dwellers, I’d do it on YouTube, not the tv.

We’ve done a couple of USA road trips, first one was LV to SF via La. Only accommodation we booked was LV and SF everything in between was just wherever we ended up.
Our second road trip was from Chicago to Houston, we booked accommodation in the main tows or places we wanted to stay and again the rest just wherever.
Both trips were great with very easy driving, when doing the second one it might have been cheaper to do it the opposite way as one way car hire is cheaper if you end in Chicago. We found that out talking to someone on the trip, as most folk do Route 66 from Chicago they need the cars brought back.
Also did a smaller trip while our daughter studied in Flagstaff, we flew into LV and drove there and back.

I was surprised at the very basic conversion she had. Having followed on YouTube or blogs other folk touring across the US in small vans I know it's not necessary to be so spartan. I've not seen all of episode one, so I'll reserve views until I have. I've had mixed views on other 'celebrity motorhome' shows!
The Guardian reviewed it, with one or two obvious gaffs like saying she was travelling in a caravan...

The outside dig a hole 💩💩toilets wouldn’t go down well here 😱

She quickly became very annoying, trying too hard to be funny rather than factual. To me it seemed to be a programme to show how cheap you can do it. Not sure I will watch again.

Will watch this having RVd Colorado, Utah, Arizona, California and NewMexico. Fantastic! I wonder if she did Boondocking on BLM land like us ? Probably not.
