Hi all

What is the best way to treat this patch of aluminium corrosion on our MH ceiling and how best to repair it after it’s treated? I’ve looked at Eterna bond, someone also mentioned fibreglass resin. Would really appreciate any advice, thanks in advance.

Hi

From your photos that looks more like rust? Has there been steel in contact with the aluminium? Once you have removed the cause of the corrosion, I would think a good wire brush/sanding followed by a quality aluminium etching primer, plus a coat of paint would keep it in check for a good few years.

Does your photo show light shining through the skin where the corrosion is?

If it’s aluminium corrosion, usually caused by condensation on the inside of the sheet. If so have you got damp getting in somewhere else ?

A body shop product called Bridging Filler is as good as anything applied both sides after good sanding
resin based with fibreglass threads ready mixed in,
Just need to add hardener supplied with product

Hi yes it’s exactly this. We found a large leak from the vent, it must have been there for quite some time. We have temporarily sealed the holes but want to do a proper job.

There are two holes which have a temporary external fix but the rest is the oxidation.

Thank you, I’ll check this out.
