Hi folks, please excuse my ignorance
I’ve read lots about various habitation battery types requiring differing bulk and float charges. Wet, Agm, Gel, lithium.
Some needing 14.4 some 14.8 on the bulk for instance, not to mention the float voltages.
I have a 2011 fiat Ducato based pvc.
It has a very basic elecktoblock NE 185 shunt? system, which by all accounts can be a bit iffy with regards to current draw battery wise.
The mains charger has lead and Gel setting on it and there’s some kind of split charge relay connecting starter and leasure battery.
I need to change the leasure battery.
I know the obvious thing would be to go lithium but I darn’t take the risk in case I fry the board adding other things to the system.
Could I just put a Gel battery in and it would charge properly.
Or stick to wet? I’ve been looking at some of these.

or one 135ah.

Thanks in advance.

I think you could safely change to Gel from Wet. AGM and Lithium might require a little more thought, AGM can suffer if under charged, Gel seem more robust and you say you have a Gel setting on your mains charger.

An NE285 is a Nordelettronica unit not Elektroblock.
If it has Gel and La settings either should be fine however what is best will depend on your useagae so is you can give us a bit more info it would be helpful.

If you go for Lithium it would be best to change the mains charger, solar regulator may need charging and you would need to fit a B2B. If going the DIY route it would cost £600 - £1000 on top of the battery cost.

Thanks.
Just purchased a 135ah sealed flooded marine battery from ABS battery supplies., same footprint just a bit taller than the original.
A lot less hassle
