Hi. 1996 very transporter calypso automatic diesel which we love dearly. Our problem is we don't have the manuals and having problem with alternator belt. I had it replaced not long ago but they couldn't locate exact one due to age so put next best thing which was too tight. As you can imagine that has not worked and broken. Problem is don't know the part number as belt no longer there. So I was hoping you could help me out by seeing if it's in the manual or if anyone has same model if can see code on the belt. Fingers crossed in manual as belt looks like in an awkward place. Thanking you in advance as really want to get back on the road with the old boy.
Thank you

What size is the engine . What make also ? I.e is it 1900, 2500,2800 cc. Does it have power steering?
Is it a vee belt , I would assume ,or a multi -vee?
Even a photo would help of wher it is going
** just noticed 'transporter' Is it a VW?

Have you tried going through a motor factors such as europarts etc who may be able to locate the correct one off your vin number

Whoops missed the “vw” bit off‍♀️
VW Trasnporter diesel A, 2370cc automatic

No idea what a vee belt is?

The garage has given up looking said his suppliers couldn’t find it. I do have another garage looking but thought you guys are more likely to be in the know.

Get the chassis and engine numbers and go to any motor factors in your area.
I don't mean high street motoring shops, I mean proper trade parts shops....they sell to the public.
You'll get the details off your V5C.
Your garage may only use one such factor, you can go to as many as you can find.

If your garage can't identify the part needed, especially for something as common as a fan belt, I'd be wondering how competent they are at servicing the vehicle? How do they (or you) know they have any of the settings correct that they might need to apply?

I’ve been looking at them online but wasn’t sure which was the correct one. Is that the one I need “the big1”? I don’t want to spend more money on having it fitted for it to be too tight and snap again.

Just check your chassis number against the one shown....S-071 782
If its a lower number then yes, that's the one.

Is it correct one?

Put in your reg. no. Should locate vehicle and belt
There is also another number like 6PK 995, 995 being the length.
Compare what you have to what it finds for you.

I would say that was H021 169 so yes but only if you have air con and power steering.
Otherwise no.
