I know this is an old thread but it's full of useful information for me about the Alde heat exchanger, which I have fitted to my 2017 Hymer. Problem is after reading through the posts several times I am really, really confused! I have the exchanger valve turned on and have tried switching the heating on at the panel but nothing happens. Do I need to set the pump to constant? What is the button on the Fiat dashboard with a fan symbol on for? Can I get hot water without a hot van? Why is there no Alde operating manual supplied with it or available on line? Hymers manual seems to say you just use the system as normal and magical things happen as you drive along but not on mine so far! What a confusing system.

Soo many questions, soo little time? :)

Came accross this topic when decided to update the present gas/electric boiler Truma 10L to Alde 3020HE, keeping the present Eberspacher diesel hot air blowing system on board as a secondary (backup) heater.
As explained by my local heating systems specialist, the hot water can only be heated up inside Alde by glycol, which in turn is being heated up by gas or 230V inside Alde, or by the Engine or Webasto/Eberspacher outside Alde.
The way they connect Alde to the engine using TWO Alde heat exchangers allows not only to have hot water from the engine without heating up the interior, but also to have continuous hot water on-demand from either heat source (Engine, or Webasto/Eberspacher, or Gas, or 230V) :
1. Alde engine heat exchanger is located on the diagram after all convectors (so, heat from the engine/webasto goes via heat exchanger directly to Alde and not via any convectors);
2. Additional heat exchanger is located between the engine/webasto heat exchanger and Alde, which heats up continuously the hot water on-demand that is coming from the boiler (which may not be hot enough yet);
3. Additional short/summer loop is added to the system diagram which allows hot glycol to by-pass convectors and underfloor heating in summer time (in the summer hot glycol is circulated only through the Engine/Webasto heat exchanger, hot water heat exchanger and Alde).
Will try to get a full diagram from them and put it here.
