All the gear, and no idea!
So after a toasty night Saturday came back from the day out to find out as soon as put alde on, it trips out the ehu, It doesn’t seem to work on gas either, the pump is circulating but no heat, and as it’s a Carthago I gather it’s a bugger to get to under etc tower, any ideas?

Have you checked the fluid level. Also the Alde website is very good for info. (y)

It’s unusual that it isn’t working on gas either.

Usually the electric trips due to the element becoming leaky as it gets damp. That should mean the gas should work.

If it isn’t working on both it would suggest something a little more involved. :-(

Have you tried turning it down to 1kw, although don’t think that would explain it doing the same on gas?

It appears I’m getting hot water on gas but no heating although the pump circulator sign is on🤷‍♂️

Is there a heat only setting for use on gas that you could try? Ours is the older style manual slide controls, giving us 3 x heating options on either gas or EHU.

Good luck getting it sorted. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Just wondering if it's the pump shorting. If you switch heating off ( just turn down temperature so there is no demand) can you get hot water on electric?

I have had the same problem with my Alde unit. It tripped the EHU when on 2kw leccy but worked fine on Gas. Once it was up to temperature it didn't trip the EHU so I heated it up on gas then switched to leccy once warm. I did contact Alde and went for a service at their facility in Wellingborough . Which cost me £200 and failed to find the problem. Next time out it did the same again.

I spoke to Phil and Andy Bailey who have dignosed the elements in the furnace have probabaly failed, £2000 fix! However I have been using a work round for the last two years, it's on list when my Premium Bonds come up

I’ve just got to Dinkelsbühl, so we’re gonna have tea, I’ve put €3.50 in the ehu meter and I’ll try it again, hope it doesn’t trip everyone out, there’s 3 of us here all on hook up🤷‍♂️🤞

Have you checked the heating fluid level?
You should have a small header tank where, with a bright torch, you can see the fluid level.
On our C-Line the header is in a small head height locker over the side seat/ pull up tv.
There should be about an inch/ inch and a half of fluid visible.
If it’s low you can, very carefully, top it up by unscrewing the plastic cap.
Only add very small amounts at a time of Alde fluid or suitable antifreeze mix.
Best of luck.

Richard.
PS. Most decent motorhome dealers will stock it.

What is tripping the RCD or MCB?

The heating must surely work on gas only WESTY66, as that is independent of the EHU, only needing 12v for the igniter. Could it be the controller that is at fault.
In those weather conditions, I'd be seeking out an Alde agent.

HTH,

Jock. :)

That’s really odd as the pump is 12v and has nothing to do with the mains side.

Try Reseting the system i have just done mine last night because I am having problems at the minute with mine which might be sorted. So to reset you have to disconnect 12v supply at the boiler for a couple of minutes then reconect. On top of boiler is a black cover, lift that and you will see 12 v feed marked. It’s like doing a reboot. (y)

If it's tripping the bollard then it has to be something to do with the 240v side not the 12v, so if it only does it when the heating comes on I would be looking at the boiler element as mentioned above. Also If it was me I would buy a small fan heater until it's fixed.

I hope you get sorted soon, it must be miserable for you.

If you have hot water the boiler is working because you can't have hot water without the glycol that heats it getting hot, do you know where your pump is? top of the tank in the expansion bottle or near the boiler as you need to make sure it is working, the pump symbol on the panel tells you only that the system is telling it to work.

As others have said the Alde pump is 12v so nothing to do with the mains side, I would be tempted to remove the hook up and sort it out on gas first then worry about the tripping post as it might be a red herring.

Good luck

Thanks for all your input guys, I’ll see if I can get to the boiler (it’s under the tec tower fridge). 👍

That's well enough hidden;) is the pump on top of that tank?

I’ll have a look after my brekky👍

The pump is usually mounted in front of the boiler.
It can usually be got at by removing a small panel at the bottom of the Tech Tower which, in our similar van, is held on by Velcro and just pulls off.

Richard.
