There has been some discussion recently about this aire being closed, due to misuse, so thought I'd post some info as a heads up.

@Rodneyplonker has been staying there, on the roadside, and speaking to someone who's been there a little while. Apparently the local council are going to re-open it, probably with a charge, but are currently sorting out how best to do it. No idea yet when this will happen and currently anyone who parks on there is being moved off by the police.

The water pipe under the flap has apparently now been replaced by a standpipe which would show that someone is doing something positive.

You can get an awful lot of vans on there if done properly which must be good for local commerce. I for one would have no problem paying a small fee and neither would I object to a stay being time-limited which would surely curb the activities of the minority who've spoiled it for the rest of us.

Hopefully we'll hear some good news shortly and if anyone is passing perhaps they can keep us updated. We'll almost certainly have a look on our way north later in the year.

Update from Rodneyplonker

Slightly mislead you there Terry...we were told it was a standpipe but, walked up there this afternoon and it is as you say... A pipe sticking out of a flap. We arrived with a full tank, etc and hadn't bothered to check it out until now. Still, the fact they allow that and haven't moved vans from parking on the road when moving them off the Aire this morning, must be a good omen in itself. There are vans parked in side streets all over town and, on a long walk along the beach this afternoon, there were numerous vans parked along the edge of the promenade and also, on part of the beach where the small boats are launched there were about six vans parked. That must put pressure on the council to adapt the site...sooner, rather than later.
