Air con unit question (1 Viewer)

Good evening
On the weekend we used our roof mounted air con unit for the first time to cool down, it was only on for an hour tops at 16 degrees to cool me down after a bike ride in very hot conditions, fab bit of kit and did the job but the following day when we were driving home we stopped for a break and noticed water on the kitchen work top and on the carpet, the underside of the air con unit was wet and water dripping out not a lot but dripping none the less, is this normal?

Depending on model they do condensate.
I recently removed an elderly Electrolux 1500 which worked fine and condensation would run down the roof ,but not inside.
Possibly the sealing flange of yours maybe perished ?
But I'm no expert.
I replaced it with a Maxxfan Maxxair DL.12v and has kept me cool on recent trip around F and S

To an extent, yes.
When stationary the condensate from the condenser radiator would drip into a tray and evaporate.
If it hadn't had time to evaporate before setting off it would overspill the tray and leak indoors.
I doubt there will be enough to cause problems.

Depending on model they should have a drain , as its common especially in high humidty situations , shouldn't drip into interior

the cooling process will make condensation and that condensation either has to be sent to a warmer part of the aircon unit to evaporate or drip out of a pipe routed to the underside of the MH, so you either have a blocked pipe or a cracked duct that transfers the condensate over to the top of the motor (that's usually where the holding tray sits), as Papa says though, you may simply have moved off a bit soon and sploshed some over the sides of the tray, either way I'd at least investigate with the covers off while running and see where it is dripping and whether it being ducted to where it's supposed to be..

Thanks both the unit is only 4 years old fitted from new as we bought the demo van, If we get to use it again I’ll see what happens.

Look up what make and model on internet , and you will quite likely find fitting instructions , they usually mention condensate drain requirements if relevant

The one I had had a pump to lift the condensation out onto the roof. If not used for a long time the pump would stick and then the air con unit would leak onto the floor. Read the instructions if it has a pump, the instructions will tell you how to operate the pump manually in order to stop it freezing in the winter.
If the.pump has stuck on.mine I had to get onto the roof and take the cover off te air con to get to the pump.

We have the dometic fresh light,,, use it a lot and never experienced that.

16° blimey lucky to get a Dometic fridge that cold.
When we visit the kids in Thailand we set the Aircon to 26/28.

Some have condensate pumps.

Could be a blocked drain or failed pump.

maybe you better contact a specialist? maybe it's a factory marriage. I heard that air conditioners should not get wet and drip

Not really, Truma service help line just kept saying refer to the web site for dealers who can help but did eventually say she didn’t, think I had a problem and to put the unit on high towards the end of using it to expel the condensation out via roof vents. I had planned to get it looked at but no one seems to be interested, called Marquis where the van is from and my service is due next month but they dont do air cons, called my local caravan place Truma agent and again don’t do air con, called van blitz but no joy there either so nothing sorted yet and don’t fancy leaving the van with just anyone.

Sounds like the pan under the evaporator filled up while you were using it. As mentioned earlier the drain is either blocked or if it has a little drain pump it's not working. It's an easy fix for any experienced AC engineer, doesn't have to be a vehicle AC specialist.

hi the evaporator is mounted high in the system and its got a gravity drain and its supposed to leak out on to the roof of your m/home ,so i sugest you take the outside cover of and see if the drain pipe has blocked first with a leaf or something small like dust
