hello Funsters

I’m planning our summer trip to Peschiera del Garda in August (fixed dates from work & also school hols unfortunately) and plan to travel there via Metz and Lucern.
However, on the return, I was thinking of routing up (right of lake) towards Innsbruck and working our way back to Zeebrugge or Rotterdam that way.
So here’s my questions;

Has anyone taken that route home (Brenner Pass I believe)?

Is it too much hassle to get a go box? (We’re 9m, 3.24m high 5200kgs tag axle)

Is it a good route to take?

How long did it take you to get from Garda up to Innsbruck?

Is Innsbruck a nice stop off place?

Any suggestions for other stops on route home?

Thanks a lot
Gav

Rechsen Pass and end up in Fussen. Glorious road.

Pesciera to Fussen is only a one hop. Fussen is lovely.

Then Metz/Luxembourg, Calais.

Thanks Brian, I'll take a look at this route.

I've just done an online chat with the Go Box site and they've said that the Austrian leg of this route will cost EUR48.00 for my 5.2t tag which I didn't think was that bad.

We've done it a few times allegedly off motorway for free. South from Fussen on L179, L189, L171. But there is a nasty, they seem to have designated the Landeck tunnel as motorway when it really isn't. Whatever, we did get away with it.

Here is the problem tunnel, with a white road bypassing it. See if you think it's a toll.

I’ve just checked and according to Tirol oberland it says that the Landeck tunnel is part of the charging toll system

I can help you on the first bit, as did the same in the same size van a couple of years back.
Bought the gobox on the motorway in Italy about 50k ish short of the border, most garages at the service areas sell them. Just take your paperwork with you and they should set it all up for you. I believe there’s a minimum load of €75 and €5 for the box. Easy peasy. Then just drive through the Brenner pass, on the motorway it’s mainly a huge bridge through the valley.

We stayed at an acsi site called Fernparadies Natterer See, (1029) which runs a FREE shuttle bus into Innsbruck throughout the day, and the site itself is......5* and unlike anywhere I’ve ever stayed before! Well worth it. (y)

Done this a few times. Its about 3 hours to Innsbruck. Italian stretch of motorway is ok and reasonable. Then come off at Brenner and use the pass. You will see 3.5 ton signs but ignore them as big lorries, motorhomes and buses use the pass. The non toll road to Fussen and southern Germany is quite winding but picturesque and again allows you to avoid the expensive go box. This year we took the autobahn up to the medieval fortress towns of Nordlingen and Rothenburg ob de Tauber. Both these towns have good stellplatz with toilets. Here's the link to my blog covering this part of the trip http://lightningtours.blogspot.com/

Great advice(y)
Thanks Dave, having done this route many times I agree its 'great advice' . The restrictions are for Lorries with trailers. The route is full of large motorhomes buses and lorries but you won't see caravans or lorries with trailers.

Just to add, if you do decide to get a go box you will need a certificate of conformity from your mh converter. V5 is nt enough.

Considering for £165 in this country you get unlimited travel for 365 day I think it's a rip off.

Hi ScotSue

I googled Go Box Austria and visited asking.at

https://www.asfinag.at/toll/go-box-for-hgv-and-bus/

down the right hand side, theres an orange 'chat' icon which opened up the online chat.
the guy was really helpful and I didn't have to wait long for each answer.
i told him my route, motorhome size & weight and Euro emissions and he worked it all out there and then.
Although there are prices on charts on the site, I got a bit confused as there was a standard charge plus a segment toll section charge for part of my journey but he clarified the fee.

If you do go in May, please will you let me know how you get on?

If I take my certificate of conformity it gives the weight before we uprated to 3900kg so will not match the V5.

I presume go box is based on the MAM?
