Saw this hab. door additional lock option on Facebook & thought it may be interest to some here if you have a model it fits - there are 5 different designs - for sale here & from the manufacturers website here http://tuersicherung-elefant.de/
We haven't tried it but Mr Wombles was thinking of making something like this a while ago.
The designs vary from this shape

to this

& variations in between!

I bought two of these - works a treat and very impressed with the simplicity.

I’ve got a fly screen which would make adding a full time internal bolt lock impossible (as it would foul the flyscreen frame).

It takes seconds to install them when in the van overnight; and I can also use them to deadlock the Hab door and exit via the cab, which itself has deadlocks, when leaving the van.

UPDATE:
There are now 8 models at around £20.50 delivered from Germany (y) - see post 185 onwards here https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...ing-accessories-discount-codes.184590/page-10 for photos of different types available & other internal/external hab. door lock options.

Just shaped some 2.5mm ali to do the same job, took about 30min, cost £0.

But looking at the size of the lock keep and where the pins stick into to lock it up I think there is a chance of making up an electronic "deadlocking" system which will sit inside the keep and interface with the alarm system.

Will be giving that idea some thought.

Yes I was thinking of cutting some myself - but to be honest, they are cheap enough to buy and are very good quality - probably laser cut. They fit extremely snuggly onto the catches with no rattle or biting into the plastic sheath covering the catch.

Most likely if I made them myself they’d be somewhat over or under sized and rough round the edges as well as not identical.

My hab door has two lock catches on it, so one on each.

My hab door also has 2 lock catches......but surely if you lock one catch with the "clever device" then the hab door won't open anyway. Or am I being naive !!!

AFAIK the operating rods from the 2 lock catches end up at a central point on the door lock mechanism. Therefore, disabling the movement on one lock catch should do the trick.

Using 2 lock catches may bring enhanced peace of mind but is possibly unnecessary IMO. I'm happy to be convinced otherwise :)

You may we’ll be right with regards to connecting rods etc.

But for the small additional cost I can ensure that both door catches are absolutely locked; and as any security specialist I’m sure will say - multipoint locking is definitely better than single point - less opportunity to prise open sections of the door and use as leverage to pull off the catch.

So, in my case, since I had went to the bother of researching, emailing the seller, arranging shipping, then the additional £16 is well worth it IMHO.

Think you've convinced me. For the relatively small extra cost think I'll do the same. Thanks :D
