Hi all,

Bit of an odd one and wonder if anyone has been down this route?

I have bought the Easy Lifter Hydrotrail for a couple of electric bikes. This has a plate that screws on to the flange plate in place of the tow ball.

However, my Memo tow bar has a swan neck held in place by two vertical plates with 30mm between them.

I can of course get an adapter made up and may end up having to do this. However, someone must have either done this or know of an adapter that will do the job.

Basically a 30mm bar or pole in place of the swan neck with a standard adapter plate on the end.

Photos show the motorhome swan neck and the Easy Lifter Hydrotail plate that goes on the standard flange.

Many thanks for your help.

Chris

Did find this, no idea what size, but it is a complete towbar. The plate and bar/beam seems like a possible solution.

Being new & post 2012 you need to ask the towbar manufacturere if there is a homolgated adaptor to replace the swan neck. Otherwise anything you adapt or fit, negates the original homologation certificate. It is only in the Uk that you can think of doing these things.

Interesting thought thank you.

Hardly a big change though, just a different plate. Still keeps the integral strength.

However, I have contacted Memo to see if they have anything.

I have an easy lifter scooter rack which fits to a plate as you describe. The tow bar you show would not be nearly strong enough. There’s a lot of pivotal weight on that plate. I would go and se a specialist tow bar fitter in your area. I have shown a picture of ours..

Thank you Phil,

The Memo towbar is one of a number of full on towbars specifically designed for motorhomes. It really is more than strong enough to tow my car on an A Frame. Forgotten what the spec is, but believe me there won't be a problem there.

Here you go Phil,

Maximum draw weight2,000 kg (with vehicle weight of 4,000 kg

Wouldn’t you be better with a bike rack that just clamps to the ball.

The swan neck could be removed, replaced with another shaft to take your adaptor but as others have said you need to find out what load the fitting is capable of.

Sounds like a good idea doesn't it!

But, you would think I might have already looked at that and indeed have one already!!!

I have a bike rack on the back of the motorhome with the largest Fiamma box in which I store my blow up awning.

The tow ball mounted bike rack would not work as the box will impede it. Apart from which, it would be too much weight bearing down on the back, with the box as well.

Hence buying the trailer with wheels which will ease the weight and clear the box.

But many thanks for taking the time to respond.

Regards

Chris

Yep, that is what I am looking for Harry, but you wouldn't believe just how difficult it is to find something.

Really hoping someone on here has gone down this route already. But I will go to a local fabricator if not.

Chris

A fabricator is probably the way ahead then.
If no one comes back, I reckon you are right.

Many thanks once again for your input and time.

That really does look like the solution,

Will get onto them in the morning. Thank you Manic.

Just seen this adaptor, it’s limited to 100kg. I prefer Manic’s solution.9998AEF2-14B4-4D7A-A07D-60212FB7FC21.jpegF6C62CAA-AFD2-4376-9808-7A3AFB60E862.jpeg

Thanks again Manic,

Just had a conversation with Nova Leisure who are the importers and confirmed the bar is 30mm x 40mm.

Ordered off one of their distributors.

Hi G2EWS

Did you get sorted with the adapter ?

I have a memo towbar fitted and looking at a hydra trail for a scooter

Cheers
Graham

As an aside my Westfalia ebike rack that clamps over the ball with a friction device is rock solid and can be adjusted to remove any play. I was very dubious but it works fine. Would be the case whether the flange or swan neck type

Hi BikerGraham,

Completed the build, used it last Oct - Dec in Spain. Now sold the trailer and flange.

Bought a Honda Forza 350 mega-scooter, a Debon 1300 Cargo trailer, all kitted out for the motor bike, 3-bikes, awning, clothing, steps etc, etc!
