Thinking of taking this route to Braemar, but a couple of people have suggested this road is not suitable for a 7.5m motorhome...... I did it in a car a few years ago and don’t remember it being that bad..... any advice?

Chris

Hi David ...we are in Aviemore at the moment and the weather is fine..... dry and mild .... well not freezing anyway... so I guess no problem..... more concerned about the size of vehicle

Saw on weather the other day though they had -9C overnight in Braemar serious risk of ice and possibility of snow on that road even when fine (y)

But we went over fine in ours at just over 8m, but we are rear wheel drive which I think helps on tighter steeper bends (y)

But I wouldn't do it in winter

love the site in Grantown though (y)

nicest warmest toilet block I have ever used and great walking around there

Loch Garten just up the road for very dark 'wilding' options, saw my first and only ever crested tit there a few years back :)

Have done this trip many times in a 7.5mtre van with a 4 metre trailer and no problems. Best not to take the Braemar turn as the humpback bridge could be an issue if your van is low.

@wiljoy ......it was the Braemar campsite we wanted to get to.... are you saying we can’t get there using that road? Our van is low....

Dont risk it. Go straight on at the junction towards Ballater then turn right upto Braemar. The hump bridge is very bad for a low van.

Seem to remember from the traffic news on radio 2 that Tomintoul was always the first place to be cut off when the snow came to that area.

Was going to drive the road at end of November. When I checked it was closed by the "first" snow of winter. MANY MANY years ago I watched a documentary about Cockbridge to Tomintoul stretch, a grainy black and white piece of film showed a bread van going between two almost cliff like walls of snow which were higher than the van.
