Good afternoon,
I can't believe that I did this but it happened. I moved my motorhome Autotrail Dakota with the ECU still attached , I moved the van less than 3 foot but it was enough to pull the connecting wires out to the hook up. The internal connection looks sound and I connected another cable but no power coming through to the van!! Any good ideas, I checked the fuses and they appear sound. Any thoughts and yes it was a stupid trick.
Merry xmas.

I've done that at home. It's a bu99er pushing the bungalow back up the hill.

Check wiring in the socket, van side. Borrow a different HUp cable to eliminate yours. I have in the past come across. Where the internal wiring as come out of the socket where it plugs in . I am not aware of any Fuse between between van socket and van PCB, but that does not mean there isn't 😉

I always walk once round the van before getting in, also look under it if it's been parked there for a while.
And while pulling off I look in the mirrors and reversing camera to see if there's anything on the pitch.

I am surprised you moved at all. On my Autotrail Savannah, should I start the engine with the EHU cable still connected I get a LOUD audible alarm sound. The first time I did this I thought it was the reverse bleeper but then found what it was.

Given how much 'previous' I have for this sort of thing, I drape the cable round the offside wing mirror.
I wrap it round the driver's mirror as well so obvious when you get into the van :)

And yes, we have "almost" driven off when still hooked up.

So do I - pilot training and practice before every flight.

Not forgetting to check the roof vents are down and locked :) Especially the one in the loo / shower.

On my van, if the EHU is plugged in AND switched on, it sounds an alarm when you turn the ignition on, but if the EHU isn't powered up, you don't get any warning, ask me how I know ....... :X3:
Also, if you just let the handbrake off to roll it forward so you can open the garage door... so I could unplug the cable. 🙈🙈🙈

I have a pre flight checklist above my head and always follow it before take off :)

I have drawn two furrows across the shingle by leaving the steadies down. Doh!

It's a trick you only try once. Mine was at home and the cable popped from the plug. I wound it up, making a note to fix it on my return. Got home to 2 dead freezers with spoilt food. Guess who forgot to double check the circuit hadn't tripped?

Did that just after buying my new van.
Have now cut the little retaining nips off the female socket flaps so if I do it again they will just pop apart.
You don’t need the nibs as the plugs are tight enough once pushed together.

Yep. Always do a “walk around” inside and out. Usually twice as ducks do not have much of a brain

A check when leaving list. And a arriving list has prevented any damage for us all the time we used
a caravan as well .

we have a much shorter list now with a motorhome.
double sided A4 laminated the first item to check off when there and leaving.

really simple idea.

Well Chris63. You have had lots of advice on how NOT to do it (So obviously plenty have) but not much on how to rectify problem WHEN you have done it.. However I am sure one of the ideas above should hold the answer.

Easily done... been there and done that myself... after that I made up a small plaque about 8" x 6" that I hang from the visor above the drivers seat... it simply says... "GET OUT AND RECHECK".... it works for me....
In the early days, when slideouts very first came to this country, I saw a guy running after a RV... pointing at the slideout that the guy hadn't pulled back in... needless to say... the driver pulled up got out saw the slideout and nearly keeled over... followed by his mrs giving him a good telling off...lol...

Try the plaque idea ....

br Don.
