Everything Riverbankannie said.Apps are better because they can be more up to date and I particularly like reading reviews abd seeing peoples photos of the place. It is also easier to search by map to look for places where you are going.
I use CamperContact and also Park4night. In the UK I find Searchforsites better.
Correct again my little bubbleicious pixiAgree with above. Camper Contact Park4Night. Get paid versions, Job done.
Actually my “system” in the post above is how I met you and your good lady GeoffAgree with CamperContact and Park4night.
There is also campingcar infos, in French but easily navigated.
If you have a reasonable data allowance try them out online first, and then choose which ones you want to pay for - as Phil said not expensive.
Those three will give you a lot more than the books and total price for the three is probably less than 'All the Aires France' North and South books., and more up-to-date.

Campercontact tends to have only “official” stopovers. Park4night has those too, but also includes unofficial and "wilder" places. Many of these are simply car parks or lay-bys, but can also be in scenic locations. I tend to cast a more critical eye over Park4night suggestions; some of them make me wonder how anyone could possibly have thought it was a good location to stay overnight! Is there different stopovers or Aires between Campercontact and park4night
