Could someone please recommend the best app for motorhome parking spots in Europe. We have been through Europe many times using aires books but wondered weather an app would be better

Apps are better because they can be more up to date and I particularly like reading reviews abd seeing peoples photos of the place. It is also easier to search by map to look for places where you are going.
I use CamperContact and also Park4night. In the UK I find Searchforsites better.

By the way, as you reminded me, a great weather app is Ventusky:wink:

Everything Riverbankannie said.

We no longer bother with the books, and only a few quid to download offline versions for when you have no data/ wifi

I don’t normally bother planning stops in Europe I just head in a general direction and use one of the above apps when ready to stop, your never normally more than 10 or 15 miles from several stopping places, never not found somewhere yet.

Agree with CamperContact and Park4night.

There is also campingcar infos, in French but easily navigated.

If you have a reasonable data allowance try them out online first, and then choose which ones you want to pay for - as Phil said not expensive.

Those three will give you a lot more than the books and total price for the three is probably less than 'All the Aires France' North and South books., and more up-to-date.

Actually my “system” in the post above is how I met you and your good lady Geoff(y)

If you have a laptop and a WiFi signal, you can go to the relevant websites for free, and of course it's so much easier on a large screen.

I do this most of the time, Search for Sites is also as good as Campercontact.

If you want hard standing, streetlights etc then CamperContact is better if you prefer the more out of the way places then Park4Night.

Thank you for all your help
Regards GCC

We also use Search for Sites and Camperstop

I love Searchforsites, so easy to use. Set search filters etc. I have found its not always up to date, but the reviews often give better info and therefore it is only as good As the people giving reviews.

Is there different stopovers or Aires between Campercontact and park4night

Yes there are differences, due to those who add their contributions , some might add to one or other.

I use Search for Sites and find it excellent, it's English and is kept up to date by its users. You can integrate it with Waze for Sat-Nav allowing you to find a site and then navigate to it with one device.

With both of these apps being updated by users if there are any errors we can influence the corrections.

PS S-for-S will integrate with other smart phone sat-nav apps.

I agree with the above posts but when in France I also use Camping Carparks, they a not free and you enter via a barrier. We have never failed to get on one most have electricity and are well spaced.

I've started going for monthly rather than annual subscriptions: a bit more faff but why pay for 12 months if you only use it for 3 months?
Definitely a good move with the advent of LockDown!

Campercontact tends to have only “official” stopovers. Park4night has those too, but also includes unofficial and "wilder" places. Many of these are simply car parks or lay-bys, but can also be in scenic locations. I tend to cast a more critical eye over Park4night suggestions; some of them make me wonder how anyone could possibly have thought it was a good location to stay overnight!

Search for Sites, Camper Contact and Park4Night are all used by us. Offline is much better obviously, and the integration with Sygic and Waze of Search for Sites (and possibly all of them now) makes the navigation easier.

There isn't one best solution - hence we use all three. That way you get the widest coverage of sites, plus the greatest range of user reviews/pictures.

Search for sites is the best, all in English and easy to use with some good features. Camper Contact maps are not so good and a lot is in Dutch and I cannot fathom why everyone raves about it but 2nd choice, also have park 4 night and Camping Car Parks which is now a lot better and shows availability at each site so you know if you can get in.
