I'm sure you'll know... but you're just around the corner from a great birding place...

Been sneaking over the border to bird D&G and birdwatch for just over 50 years (showing my age 🤣🤣) and there are some superb birding areas Caerlaverock is OK but can get crowded so tend to steer clear, Carsethorn, Mersehead, Loch Ken, Laureston, and the Queens Forest to Newton Stewart and other off the beaten track spots are our favourites. We have actually trekked up to the summit of Criffel in the days before Arthritus decided to visit my knees 😱😱. It’s a truly wonderful county missed by many thankfully who think Scotland starts proper North of Edinburgh or Glasgow, and long may it prevail. 👍

We only visited the castle when there. Mind you it was all pretty 'wetland' when we were there.

Following your post no. 30.504 namwaldog my friend Shirley Blossom and I decided to visit Geldo, (west of Valencia) today to see the street art ourselves. I won't duplicate your pics so here are a few I don't think are on your post.🤔

Yes Wendy, we remember it well. We all biked in to Ypres from the Aire with the unpronounceable name!
I think I helped one of you with a bike chain?
We also chatted with you and your dog on the Cite d'Europ (when we were allowed to stay there!)

Really liked the 'Art' in Geldo. The detailing on the man's whiskers was amazing. Just missed you a while back at Keswick as we live nearby.

I seem to remember MH's used to be allowed to overnight at the Castle and they perhaps saw an opportunity, so built the CL down by the river.
Didn't work out and now allow overnighting as a 'Serviced Aire' at the site of the CL with online donations suggested for doing so.

The Solway Firth is a tidal estuary and the sands are always shifting creating the wetlands. Lovely area though.

Thanks for the info about Geldo it’s great seeing all the artwork and the Aire is good also. I hope we can catch up with you again soon.

Crossed into France today at Le Perthus...

And down to the Aire by the Marina at St Cyprien.
Always find it a bit snug here, but managed to blag a pitch on the far end of the front row with a wide grass verge next to the hab door!

Skies cleared after lunch so had a nice walk along the marina & promenade.

Found in a barn today near where I live. From what I can discover it is probably from the early 60s. I'm sure chaser will know. :)

Leaving S.W France, we started meandering north to our next overnight at Gaillac.
Raining as soon as we arrived so didn't get to see much!!

I'm old enough to remember when Airports were called Aerodromes!!

Moved further on in the morning to Montauban and then the N820, one of our favourite roads in France.
Favoured with blue skies and cottonwool clouds

We're at Ludlow Touring Site, Morris Leisure. Lovely site and facilities.

Photos of Ludlow.

Trouble has been transport. Bus service is unreliable in that new company haven't fully installed the previous timetable. Last bus into Ludlow 1301 and we're left to believe no bus to return. However in asking driver there was a bus returning at 1725, the only bus returning since 1301. The bus did return at said time.

Other option, call a taxi however phone signal is terrible and we couldn't have phoned for one anyway.

We are here for another day but struggling to do something, we'll see.

Delamere Forest CACC this weekend.

8 and a bit miles round trip today. Once past the visitor centre and Old Pale Hill it was a lot quieter.

The hidden trig point among the (apparently redundant) pylons. Jodrell Bank and the Lovell telescope easily visible (in person, anyway).

20250329_113943.webp

Continuing South, partly on the Sandstone Trail, past a park up with a very nice RP Sprinter and a big Auto Trail (Kelsall Parking Area on Google) eventually headed down to the Boot Inn, and some very tasty Weetwood ales. Very nice sitting outside in the sunshine.

20250329_131559.webp

Back north again, parallel to the route out, past the Kelsall equestrian centre, very busy. Clouded over and light rain, so timed our pub stop and picnic lunch perfectly.

Back past Eddisbury Hill Fort, again with views east and north.

Back to the van, and Hot cross buns, toasted and buttered, tea and coffee while the legs recover!
