Today went on the Fred Hill Memorial Ride in South Wales. For the non-bikers on here Fred Hill was a founder of MAG, (Motorcycle Action Group).

It was originally founded at the time that wearing crash helmets became compulsory. Some people objected to the “infringement of their civil liberties”, (in “today speak”), with Fred himself being jailed on a number of occasions for refusing to wear his.

Sanity prevails today and helmets are recognised as the life savers they are but MAG still acts as a pressure group lobbying the government for better treatment of, and regulations for, riders.

Can i ask, i read South Wales but where was this ride?

Started at the Café on Caerphilly mountain. Then using country lanes travelled via , Bedwas, along the Gwent Levels to Cardiff Bay then via Whitchurch back to Caerphilly mountain.

I dropped out after Whitchurch and went home as the trip back home from the mountain was 26 miles for me.

Sunday's walk. Can't recall doing Wye Dale and Chee Dale before. Would hate to do it in Summer, lots of queuing for the stepping stones!

Then up and over to Chelmorton, with a well preserved field system.

And down into Deep Dale.

Rather annoyed about this bit.

No closure signs before you descend. Only a pre-2017 information board at the bottom, from which you have to work out if the footpath is closed or not?

It was closed.

There was a dodgy unofficial diversion, so rather than climb up again we persevered.

Apart from that, an enjoyable walk.

I remembered when I was 14 and a school friend did we walked the Wye Dale and Chee Dale. It rained. The stones were under the water a bit. Staggered to the main road. A man in a Jaguar car offered us a lift. We took the risk. He did not mess with us, dropped us on Newtown, New Mills. Never been back but I have a member of riding in a Jag.

Decided it was time to have a bit of R&R from exploring the mountains and enjoy some blue skies and sunshine on the coast.
So drove down to Mazarron via Lorca.

Stayed at the El Moreral Camperstop for 4 nights to catch up with laundry, do a few chores with the MH etc.



Had a chat with Abe & Elaine Oscar

There is a Mercadona nearby so visited the extensive fish stall there

and kept it simple with some trucha (trout).

Steamed in white wine, lemon and rocket. Served with Judas beans, fresh brown bread and butter.

Nice little camperstop.

The one thing we miss from using Areas, the ability to cook and eat outside!!

Some fresh Seps, seared, then steamed in white wine, garlic, herbs, M's olives, fresh bread and Rioja..

Itchy feet again, so moved further along the coast to Los Alcazares Area, a former bus terminus that afforded us some shelter from the rain!!

Had a walk along the very nice promenade

and enjoyed lunch by the sea..

together with invited guests...

Had a natter with one half of suavecarve before moving further along the coast!
And after receiving a few "Completo" signs at a couple of camperstops around Santa Pola, decided it was time to head for the hills again!!

Pitched up at a privately run camperstop above Alicante for the weekend...

Where tranquility was the order of the day...

Had a walk down into the nearest town, Monover, which in our view was completely uninspiring!

Second day had a walk around the area of the camperstop...
Nice views of Monover and nearby Elda..

Several species of cactii...

And some thorn bushes I wouldnt like to get tangled up in!!

& some nice old aquaducts...

I'm down south in a god forsaken small hamlet that has one pub and nowt else.
Anyway, after 2 Guinness i thought go on try the local stuff, some old codgers in drinking Otter Amber, said it is fab. Yeh right, had a pint (i could have had a taster but me being me, in for a penny), anyway, again rubbish. These local "craft" ales do absolutely nowt for me, but at least i do try them before i say they are rubbish, FOR ME.
Anyway i'm down softy south to visit the Haynes Motor Museum tomorrow. Then up to Burton on The Water to visit that little one with the Mini with grass on it outside.
My digs for the night.

Ramshaw Fell near Coanwood in SW Northumberland a favourite off the beaten track birding location of mine for many years now and a great hike over the fell and hills. The footbridge over the Park Burn (stream) is used by many more sheep than walkers.

That Haynes Museum is one of the best Modern museums i've been in, and I've been in a lot around the world.

I find most French and Spanish supermarkets have a nice fish counter...... why can't we ???? too easy to get a Deliver oo or a Mc D. so supermarkets don't cater for it !!!

I tried a pint of that Jeremy Clarkstons lager Hawkshead? tonight, well i say pint, less than half i drink the other half slung.. Utter rubbish.
Then tried one of these

Very palatable. But i wouldn't want it daily.

Not been there for a few years but was well impressed with it when I went. A lot of car clubs go there for breakfast meet I believe.

Not sure when the new place opened but the old place is still there. I had a walk down to have a look see.

Carried on North today using the smaller roads passing Pinoso, Yecla, and Almansa, swapping provinces between Alicante, Murcia and Castilla-La Mancha, eventually arriving at the small town of Jalance. Another Gem!!

Dominated by its castle, Jalance is a lovely place, most houses were painted in a myriad of colours.

The Camper Area is immediately before you enter the town from the south.

The pink building next to the Area is conveniently a Bar!! With Piscina behind if you fancy a swim!

Lunch in the Bar Central further into the town

Patatas Bravas, with a Hamburguesa Pollo and a Lomo Bocadillo which we shared!!

Walked it off round the colourful streets...

The angles of the streets are amazing...

I particularly like the look on the donkey's face on this Fuente..

Schloss Hartheim near Linz (Austria) today, Madame is filming a Holocaust piece, this is where the disabled/mentally ill were sent during the NS era, 23,000 lost their lives here, it was not a camp, it was off the bus, inspected then straight to the chamber.....
Well worth a visit if you come this way, Interesting, moving and horrifying at the same time.
