We got our French 6 month visas back and all was well. We were booked on the tunnel on the 6th January and left Edinburgh yesterday. We stopped off in Doncaster overnight and planned to travel to Canterbury for a few days until we cross on the 6th at 7pm. We were making good progress and were only 60 or so miles from Canterbury on the M11 when there was an almighty bang and the windscreen shattered. It remained in one piece but the passenger side is completely shattered with numerous cracks up and down and all over. We think it must have been a bird as nothing in front of us and a trail of sticky dusty residue on the screen, no blood.
I was so sickened I pulled into the nearest services, turned the opposite way and drove all the way back home to Edinburgh in one go, I’m shattered.
Called Premium who say it could take sometime to get a replacement, I asked if we were talking days or weeks to be told definitely weeks if not months. Insurance have also asked I complete some paperwork so they can also start looking. The screen is made in Turkey.
Got home and completely gutted about our planned trip, oh well at least we are okay.

Oh blimey that’s unlucky. Hope you get it replaced as quick as possible. Assume you'll be able to take advantage of your visa later in the year.

So sorry to hear that, would it be quicker to contact the factory directly in Germany ? Send a courier to pick it up? I know of a very reliable person with a low loader van who travels all through Europe?👍

I think they are a francise the Bristol depot used to have huge stocks but that's old information I'll keep my fingers crossed for you good luck

That was bad luck. I think you would have be better off carrying on then going via Germany to either a Morelo dealer or the factory.
I was not sure about the legality of driving with a screen in that condition, it’s more than just a few cracks, to the extent I was even nervous driving home at speed on U.K. motorways. I agree if conditions allowed Morelo would have been the place to go.

In an effort to move things on I have contacted my contact at Morelo in Germany. The screen is made under license to Morelo and the OEM part can only be supplied by Morelo direct. The good news is if approval is given today from the insurer a new screen should be at the chosen address in the U.K. by Wednesday next week.
The road block now is approval from the windscreen replacement company who are acting on behalf of my insurer, but they are on it.
Looking a bit more positive than I feared lastnight

Sorry to hear about the screen. Hopefully with a little polite but continuous, geeing up of the decision makers, you'll soon have it fixed and on your way. At least you can still enjoy the up to nine months away :) once it's all completed.

My wife & daughter got on a national express coach & the upstairs front windscreen was like yours from one side to the other.traveled all the way to London from Exeter like it.

I was concerned as the picture I posted was not of the area of the main impact. That area is only being held together by the laminate film. I was concerned about the reaction of overseas Police if stopped. At least in the U.K. I could explain my way out of telling white lies that it had just happened. Lying in an other country and language doesn’t seem so easy 🙄

Sorry to hear your holiday has been postponed, glad you’re both ok and hopefully have a fix arranged.

Thought I would give an update on where we are. Our insurer appointed PSV Glass & Glazing to oversea and complete the replacement. I have also been working my contacts at Morelo in Schlusselfeld. Both have been absolutely brilliant. The windscreen is made under license for Morelo and as such can only be bought from them. The windscreens come from the manufacturer in Turkey. The order was placed on Friday and arrived at Morelo today. It also departed Morelo heading to Scotland today, their was a concern it would not be released as PSVs’ payment (€9210) had not cleared but was all sorted.
Delivery is expected on Friday or Saturday at PSV branch in East Kilbride.
The National General Manager called me to explain that the fitment of these screens is not the easiest, they have done two before at their Midlands branch. He has requested a slight delay to allow him to mobilise the fitter from East Midlands to do the fitment. So all going well we should be back on the road late next week.
All parties involved have been absolutely terrific. Even the CMC waived the £20 amendment fee to change our crossing.
Justing hoping our luck continues and the screen arrives unbroken very soon and we have a successful fitment.

This was the screen being checked this morning before shipment to Scotland

Glad to hear you have it sorted out 👍 but 9k plus fitting, you could have a full conservatory fitted for less😮
Being realistic this is one of the reasons a van cab would make a lot of scense.
That’s Euros remember 😂 I’m unsure how much fitting will be, but given they are flying someone from the Midlands I suspect it maybe around 11k all in. Glad I have unlimited windscreen cover, but goodness knows what will happen at renewal. It does not have an impact on NCB but they will want some of the cost back no doubt.

Is there any impact, due to the delays on your 6 month French visa?

Pleased that it's all going smoothly. Fingers crossed
Out of curiosity Do you know the managers name who's dispatching staff from Midlands.

Keeping everything crossed for you both. They really are pulling out all the stops by the sound of things.

Also the question has to be asked, why Premium gave the doom and gloom and said it could be weeks if not months and you personally have managed to sort it within days, well done 👍
