Number one son volunteered himself and me to be outriders for an event covering the country to raise money for Children in Need..
It is the Big Learner Drivers Relay of the UK
Basically, a crowd of learners drive a section ( maybe 20 to 100 miles ) picking up more learner drivers ( in their learner driver school cars ) and dropping off others who have done the bit they wanted to do..
We did about 60 miles of escort duty for the convoy this afternoon.. Started with about 20 cars and ended up closer to 40..
Within 5 miles of the start point the rain started.. By the time we did the stint and got home we were absolutely dripping !
It was all my fault. As we were about to leave home the weather was warm and sunny..
I kicked the wets in to the corner .. If only I had put them on it would have been a brilliant ride with nary a drop of rain !!! :-0)

Something that was very nice though.. We had several comments, stuff like ..

Are you two police riders usually ?
That was very professionally done, thank you ..
Made my day I can tell you :)

Still it was nice to be on a bike and not the goldwing masquerading as one (y)

I honestly doubt it.. But if the paint aint been done by the time we get back from Spain in March I shall be taking it all back and doing it all myself..
The offer of a free custom spray is all well and good IF it is ever done.. Been almost two years in the waiting now...

Sorry, don't want to take away from a very worthwhile charitable cause but..

when i saw the title of the thread i thought it was going to be a sad story of you thinking you were just going to pass wind, and getting it wrong!

Boy oh boy, have you got some patience.
Not really.. it is just the project bike so a bit like doing an airfix kit over a long period of time :)
If it was my only bike I would have been going ballistic after two weeks, let alone two years !!

Matt black infra red reflective paint for the Blackbird..
Mitch
As it happens.. as many Bird owners have found out over the years the shape seems to be one of those that makes it hard to spot with hand help speed detectors .. No idea why but it was first mentioned by a police officer who was helping out at a speed weekend I was at.
It was a straight 2 mile run just flat out. ( ( I got a certificate somewhere with 184.6 mph on it :) )
Since then I have heard the same thing elsewhere..

Well that speed leaves my matchless 750 looking rather slow. I only got to 108. But then I could do that on the road and be legal.

LOL !! I do not go back that far..
I missed it by a year ( 70 started in 1965 )
Anddd.. just be an awkward cuss.. Are you sure it was a 750 ? The G12 would have been about the right one and that was a 650 :)

Previous to that was the G80 range which was a tiddly 500cc LOL !!

Both were fitted with the Prince of Darkness electrics and Smiths ( never the same number twice ) speedo's ;):D

My grandad had one of those ( I think )

Ummm.. thinking back I am wrong.. Cos it was pre Interceptor days so must have been the 700 Meteor
The only reason it sticks in my head is that they had a fibrax cog on the magneto.. If you got it wrong when kicking it over it would strip the bloody teeth !
It was my introduction to gear cutting, when he made an ally one in his rather amazing shed.. ( he had a lathe, post drill, surface grinder and mill all running from a single over head drive shaft with belts and pulleys all over the place ! )

I think you may be right. But please I am in my 70s . And that I had quite a few motorbikes. And a lot of accidents. The worst one on that bike. I could be wrong.

It is nice to know that even when I can not get it right. There is always someone that can come up with the right answer. I only had it for 3 months before a tk Bedford pushed me into a roundabout on the a3.

Oh yes It was no fun going to Brighton on the a23 . The police used to nick you as you came round the bend at Merstham. Or as you came to Redhill.
