Had to have a new screen last Easter while we were touring Scotland. Now on our second trip out since lockdown and got a chip on the edge of the screen on the M25. Followed shortly by a foot long crack! Now concerned a bit about insurance (last year's did give increase in premium on wife's car.... I'm a named driver). Really spoilt our week seeing our new grandson. We have three vehicles in the household so insurance increases mount up!

These things happen, I had a broken windscreen, took it in to be replaced, I was offered one at extra cost that had a tinted part at the top and i declined, once the new screen was fitted I drove off just accelerating on a duel carriageway and a bird flew past and hit the screen Doh! less than 10 minutes and I was back at the Workshop asking for a new screen glad I never paid extra for that tinted strip at the top of the screen. I guess its down to probability.........if it was a lottery ticket I would have one millions twice :giggle:

Hope your new screen lasts a long long time.

But if they had to get the tinted screen from a different shelf, the bird may have missed the windscreen! ! second either way and the bird wouldn't have copped it.

Windscreen claims (repairs or replacement) don't normally affect insurance premiums as they are just one of those things that happen through no fault of your own but you have to get sorted unlike a 'dint' in the body work that usually doesn't make it illegal/unsafe to drive the vehicle.

You'll still have to pay any excess but that's all usually however you need to check the T&Cs of your policy as some insist on you using certain companies and if you don't they have a limit on what they'll pay.

Windscreen claims don't effect NCD. When wife informed her insurance part way through her policy (she'd forgotten about previous claim) she got charged another thirty odd pounds. We'll certainly check policies in the future.

We used Auto Glass last year as that was what insurance.company stipulates. They did a good job. The kit they had to change a big screen single handed was impressive.

Sometimes pays to pay rather than claim. For my last van a Transit the screen cost 85 pounds fitted..My excess was 100 pounds so I was 15 pounds better off paying.BUSBY.

Had windscreen replaced on my car, then a few days later (new) windscreen got hit by a stone and went again - so two windscreen replaced under insurance in a week.
No effect on insurance premium (it went down slightly), but still got stung for the glass replacement excess at £190 each time

Windscreen claims are notifiable occurrences when renewing a policy. Yes a claim does not effect your No Claims Discount but the fact that you have made a claim is a risk that the insurance business looks at. So when the question is , Have you had any claims in the last five years, the answer is yes. When you list the claim as windscreen , as i have found, one claim has not made any difference in the quote. Start putting two or three claims for windscreens and note the increase in the premium.
The fact that you have made claims ,whether windscreens or damage to your or others vehicles gives you a claim/risk score. Its the nature of the beast in insurance its all about what risk are you.
