The announcement is made but the approved companies (and presumably costs) announced on 22nd October.

Info for those currently abroad.

This just proves that it’s literally all about money and nothing about Covid. Why are only paid for tests accepted? If it was about Covid the free ones would also be acceptable, but no. Only ones where somebody makes money from it. Health and safety of the people? Yeah right.

How is else do you think they are going to pay for their million-pound villas in Marbella?

Reported results from a self administered LFT can easily be falsified, relying on the person being tested to be honest. They can enter a negative result even if the actual result was positive.
Having someone in authority, ie... A nurse etc, doing the test it can't be falsified.
As for the cost.... If you're so determined to go abroad for your jollies you should pay for the test.
You wouldn't expect your travel costs to be paid for by others so why your covid test.

Yep, perfectly reasonable to pay for your own tests when off on holiday. And some of the prices being bandied about for the current tests, whilst true, are scare mongering. I've just come back from cycling in Majorca, and my LFT (now not needed to return) was £28, and my 2 day PCR (soon to be LFT) was £32. Small change compared to the cost of the trip.

Can I just say for the benefit of those who gag when they do their tonsils like eg me and Lenny HB - if you stick your tongue out of your mouth before you get the swab in - it does make it slightly more bearable.

I am surprised that with our high rates of infection UK Citizens are not required to test before leaving.
Some Countries do insist on a test before travelling from the UK. For example, we’re flying to Iceland next month and need a negative test 72 hours before departure from Manchester.

I have just wondered what would happen if you just put the 2 drops from the test kit on the reader without actually performing any swab test, would it show negative or void? I do 2 LFT a week & 1 PCR for my volunteering role at a hospice but may just try it next time, as well as a proper one, to see what happens.

From a health & protection point it is ridiculous that you can test yourself and send in the result for any system. For those who may be positive they could easily send a test in from someone else who was willing to provide it.

I know the majority would abide by the rules, were British after all, but a system that can so easily be bypassed is no system really and as many have said just a money making racket for those that provide the tests.

Mrs SC has just been made to read this ! ;)

Annoyingly we return in 23rd so have to pay more into the Boris’ Cronies fund.

Thanks for that. Will give it try next time as I was retching so much earlier I threw up!

The latest tests we picked up from Tesco don't require you to stick the swab into your tonsils just up your nose.

That’s the thing though. A nurse isn’t doing the test. We are. The test even when paid for can just as easily be falsified.
I’d love to know why you think paying for a test makes it any more accurate or there is less chance of the result being falsified?
If it’s like the current test requirements then the only requirement is for one to purchase a test. There is no requirement to undertake said test. Just to buy it.

Just met a couple here in Spain. They have been flying back to the Uk every two weeks for work matters. They purchased a pct test and put that number on the uk passenger location form. They then return to Spain two days after arriving not having sent off the pct test. They have been using the same pct reference number on their PLF without a hitch and they say they have never sent a pct test off. Just makes the whole system stupid

Typically we return from France on the 20th. Through the Tunnel. Amazing we need tests to enter UK from a Country with much lower levels of infection and much higher vaccination levels who still have masks and COVID passports.
We really have lost the plot!

Don’t understand why wiping your tonsils is any different to your inner cheek to be honest, and when I paid for a 5 day early exit, they only shoved stick up our noses, and then said it was oral, and nasal test. It’s all BS anyway. Especially self test latflow.
