Hi,

I have recently purchased a Cello TV for our i821 2008. It came with a 12v power lead that does not fit into the TV Socket, it seems to require something thinner??
I've tried the adaptor with the red cap (which I believe makes it a din or hella socket!!) on and without. There are 2 other TV sockets, one in the rear bedroom and one under the travelling seats in the lounge. If I hold the power adaptor with the red cap on in the socket it gives power to the TV, but it won't stay in. So two questions really, do you think that it's just a rubbish adaptor that doesn't fit properly, if so where can I buy a better quality one? And secondly does anybody know what i need for the TV socket that seems like it needs something smaller? I'm thinking I'm probably doing something daft, but I have no clue. Let me know if you need to see pics to make it clearer. I'm on a steep learning curve.

Thanks in advance

Amy

There are two sizes of 12v socket (ignoring the two pin caravan socket).
The smaller one might be the one called CBE socket? I think the smaller ones are meant to give a more secure fit. Correction. Hella make a smaller fit socket I think.

From bitter experience, that 12v plug does not work. Leaving the red bit on or taking it off makes no difference. Cut it off and fit another cigarette lighter plug like this:

20190704_212109.jpg The first pic, is the main TV point (that seems narrower) the second is the wider type.

I've just ordered a cigar type one with a cello tv lead from Ebay, (couldn't swop them myself) which will hopefully work for larger size, just looking for narrow hella ones now.
Thanks for replies.

Have the same Hella sockets in my Büstner, are you sure you're pushing it in far enough?

I think so. But will go try again, what about the smaller TV one? Do you have one of those? I think it might be what Jev88 says a cbe socket but not sure where I would get lead or adaptor from

Cut it off and fit this type with the full circumference grip. They are very easy to fit having screws rather than being soldered. .
The ones with two slide type grips aren't worth the plastic they're made of.
This type of plug push in with some resistance and positively click into place.... Maybe you aren't pushing firmly enough.

The little square one is a W4 socket that someone has added you can get the plugs online or from any caravan accessory shop.
Or ebay. Daft price BUT they are pretty good to be fair. Whoever fitted it was a caravanner in a previous life.

Since 2016, caravans before that, folding Caravan, tents before that
Or you could get one of these, which will convert your narrow adaptor (Hella) to be the same as the others that you have

I'm wondering if when that extra socked was so professionally installed... if the original cigarette style socket was disconnected?

Just a bit of history that may alarm some of you.
The W4 socket was originally designed by Leisly Blake his company was Senate. The socket was designed for 240v @ 10a and was used inside a Baxi heater. W4 used to distribute them for the caravan industry, when Lesily became terminally ill W4 bought the tooling for the range of products and the rights.
How do I know? I went to see Lesily to sort out the drawings & transfer of the tooling.

If the plug with the red bit on fits and it works but it doesn't stay in then the fault is probably in the socket. if you look into the socket you may see brass bits which you can gently bend then inwards with a screwdriver so they grip the plug better. But turn off the supply to the socket first as otherwise you may short circuit things and will be looking for a fuse next. :)
