12v Printer For Van (1 Viewer)

I will be moving in to Scotland at some point and due to the type of training I’m delivering, I’m hoping to return to North East England to continue my part time work, on a ‘week on, two weeks off’ basis. I’ll be using the van as my base for the week that I’m working and I will need to print out (non colour) A4 size attendance sheets each morning.

Is anyone currently using and able to recommend a reliable 12volt printer, suitable for use in the van.

I've previously used one of Link Removed. Not 12 volt exactly, but with an inbuilt battery that can be charged through either a mains adaptor or through usb. Was fairly impressed for the size of the unit...not cheap though.

I just use a small Canon 240v printer with an inverter. Did think of buying one of the 12v ones, but they are so over priced IMO.

Don't bother with 12v expensive to buy and run, I've been using a HP deskjet D1560 for twelve years on a 200w modified sine wave inverter. No problems. Ink £20 lasts months. I print out the Telegraph crosswords and Sudoku every day.

Printer cost me £35 inverter £20, it is wired directly to the leisure battery.

Recharges the laptop at the same time.

I use a epson workforce 100. I connect from printer to laptop, so it picks its power up from there. Laptop has 12v charger.

Thanks all for your replies.

I hadn’t considered using an inverter and I’m interested in pursuing that route as it could possibly remove the need to buy a new printer. Never having used an inverter, would one power my current 240v combined colour printer/scanner, or would I be better off with a lower power unit ?

Surely it's worth trying your current printer before spending the money on a new one?

I use a Epson WorkForce WF-110W Portable A4 Inkjet Printer. Expensive yes, but also very good.

I have one of the smallest laser printers, an HP15?? Half the size & wt of a 3in one and ink doesn't dry up if not used like an inkjet. £50, currys last year.

What about a different approach?

Most business /offices have printers - could you not just use a printer at your training location?

Or print the attendance sheet in advance / get a mate to print them for you?

Good idea, but my venues are booked on an ad-hoc basis and don’t have those facilities available for our use. They don’t mind in an emergency, but not several times a week.

The attendance sheets can be updated nationally as late as 7pm the evening before, so printing ahead wouldn’t work and as far as getting mates to do the printing, I imagine I’d need some first

I'm looking into this as intend on running my business this summer from the van.

I've decided what I need is a mobile printer, with built in battery.
Something like the HP Officejet 200 seems to tick all the boxes.
It will do at least 50 pages off a single charge,
and can be charged up via USB or 240v mains when available

As I need proper WiFi, the chances are I'll be in a campsite or somewhere similar, so will probably have EHU power in any case

The issue with low-power inverters is really only that they are a low power constant drain while they are connected. If you only use a printer occasionally, like once a day for a few sheets, then you can disconnect the inverter when it's not in use. A 150 watt inverter can be plugged into a 12V cigarette-lighter socket, and will probably power most printers
