One space has become available at Thorpe as the site have said they won't allow fifth wheelers so Reg and Tina can't join us on the Rally (their motorhome is poorly ...)

If anyone is interested let me know please ASAP, thanks

Just to clarify - twin axles motorhomes are welcome at the rally, it's fifth wheelers they won't accept....

Update, just been to the site and although we've had a lot of rain it should be fine. The rally field is in use over the weekend, with a large A class motorhome on there already, so I'm sure it will be ok.The site have asked that if you do find yourself 'stuck' please don't try to get yourself out and create a bigger issue by spinning yourself 'deeper'. If it does start to become boggier can you also reduce the number of times that you take your motorhome off site, so please come pretty much stocked up with food etc. There is a Tesco Express (or extra?) in the village so you could shop there if necessary. We will have our car so I could organise a shopping trip if anyone was genuinely in desperate need.

We already have one Funster on site .... !!

Hi Dave,

Getting close now and we're looking forward to meeting you and all the other happy campers. It looks like we might have some weather to deal with!

Mr Google says it's 54 minutes for us - better not start too early.

See you tomorrow

It rained overnight but it's been hot and sunny for the last couple of hours, it's getting cloudy but still hot. We've had a family brunch and all sat outside ...

Morning,

Can we just drive in to reach the Rally Field or do we need to stop and 'register' at the office on arrival? You may have posted this in the instructions somewhere but i can't remember.

Thanks

I've been asked to resend this info - hopefully you will get chance to read it during the current shower which looks to passing over quickly

I have tried to put together some local information that might come in handy when youโ€™re attending the Rally. Please note that all the information is correct as of at the time of writing this infosheet. I am available on 07875 367161 should you URGENTLY need any assistance that youโ€™re unable to resolve yourself. If you would like name badges then please let me know well in advance as I will need to arrange to have them made and posted out to me prior to the rally.

DIRECTIONS TO THE RALLY

The address of Grange Farm is

Station Road
Thorpe Le Soken
Clacton on Sea
Essex
CO16 0HG

What Three Words

Picture.purist.employers

Dates of Rally - Arrival 27th May 2024 strictly AFTER 1330 hrs (1.30pm)
Depart 2nd June 2024 strictly BEFORE 1100 hrs (11am)

THE CAMPSITE IS A SINGLE TRACK ROAD IN AND OUT, THEREFORE IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE TIMES ARE STRICTLY ADHERED TO.

There are a couple of passing places but it can be very awkward if several motorhomes or caravans are trying to enter or leave at the same time, therefore the campsite has a scheduled arrival and departure time in place. Once booked in, then of course youโ€™re free to leave and arrive as you wish but please try to keep to the above times.
On arrival you will be issued with a code for the electric gates to allow you to enter via a keypad. Exiting the site is by driving towards the gate, which will open automatically as you approach and will close automatically after. Only one vehicle to enter or leave at any one time please.

You will be directed to the rally field on arrival, please adhere to the marshalls instructions to ensure correct spacings are adhered to as per the approved MotorhomeFun guidance. If you wish to park immediately next to friends, then please arrive together as pitches will be allocated sequentially, other than the pitches for those who have opted for Electric Hook Up (EHU). These will also be allocated sequentially but in a specific part of the rally field.

RALLY INFORMATION

Thorpe le Soken has a main street thoroughfare, which tends to become very congested, especially at school times or early morning and early evening. After leaving the A120 dual carriageway towards Clacton on Sea, it might be better to follow the signs to Manningtree and Harwich at the Mcdonalds roundabout and then almost immediately take the right fork at the next roundabout towards Weeley train station, ignoring the sign for Thorpe le Soken. Follow that road for about two miles, going past the fire station on your right and then turn left at Plough Corner, onto Harwich Road, which is signposted B1414 Thorpe le Soken. Follow that road, going under the railway bridge, past the train station and the campsite is on the left as you go up the hill.

An alternative route would be to follow the A120 towards Harwich and turn right at the water tower towards Tendring, but again that road eventually connects to the main street in Thorpe and as such can also be congested at times.

If you wish to drive through Thorpe le Soken, then follow the signs for Thorpe le Soken from the Mcdonalds roundabout and as you drive through Thorpe, turn right at the war memorial and the campsite can be found about half a mile on the right hand side.

FRESH WATER

There is a fresh water hose reel fill point specifically for motorhomes and campers to fill as you arrive, immediately as you enter the site, in addition there are several water taps around the rally field.

DRAINAGE

Although there is a black water waste point in the adjacent โ€˜Oaksโ€™ camp field (the campsite is split into three different fields), there is no specific point to enter grey waste. The campsite ask that all grey waste is emptied into the hedgerows.

TOILETS AND SHOWER BLOCK

The rally field has its own shower and toilet block, please refrain from using the other toilet blocks if at all possible, so as not to inconvenience the other campers on site.

ELECTRICITY

Only those who have pre booked will be allowed to use the Electric Hook Up points. Those who have requested a EHU will be directed to an EHU pitch. Although there are lots of EHU points around the rally field (which are likely to be covered over), please do not abuse their availability.
If you wish to obtain electricity during your stay then please speak direct to the campsite owners BEFORE you connect to a supply. The campsite have stated that no splitting or sharing of EHU supply will be allowed and have indicated that this will be monitored throughout our rally.

THERE IS NO CHARGING OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES ALLOWED ON THE CAMPSITE.

Morrisons Supermarket, Little Clacton (https://my.morrisons.com/storefinder/277) has a large number of EV charging points and two dedicated motorhome parking spaces.

AWNINGS

Awnings and windbreaks are allowed, but please be mindful of their positioning in relation to any adjacent motorhomes or campers.

WASTE DISPOSAL/RECYCLING

The campsite encourages recycling and has separate bins for different types of waste. Please try to separate your waste accordingly before disposing of it. Please do not leave large broken camping items i.e. umbrellas, chairs etc as the site has no means of disposing of those items.

MOTORHOME AND CAMPERS APPLIANCE REPAIR, TESTING ETC

A small independent business who can carry out repairs, habitation testing, gas testing, servicing etc - they are in Thorpe le Soken, less than 10 minutes from Grange Farm Camp site. I have personally used this business and would recommend their services.

MOTORHOME AND CAMPER SPARES AND ACCESSORIES

A very well stocked and reasonably priced caravan/motorhome spares and accessories, inc LPG replacement cylinders. Homestead caravans are about 5 minutes outside Thorpe le Soken. They also sell items online, so you could order online and personally collect to ensure they had the items in stock.

LPG REFILL/REFUEL

LPG pump, however its about 45 mins from Grange Farm, and a bit of a trek, so not exactly convenient, unless you call on your way to Grange Farm, though they are likely to have LPG at the pump. I would advise you to ring beforehand.

Morrisons Supermarket at Ipswich is easier to find than Gssgas, and is close to the A14 for those of you using that route, but of course as with all gas supplies at the pump, they cannot guarantee to have LPG at the pump. Itโ€™s rare for them not to have LPG available.

SHOPPING

Clacton Shopping Village ( http://www.clactonshoppingvillage.com/ ) is a discount retail outlet featuring a few well known retailers (including an M&S discount store), there is usually plenty of parking spaces for motorhomes in the main car park opposite the outlet during the week.

There are local Morrisons, Tesco, Asda and Lidls supermarkets along with a newly opened M&S Foodhall all within a ten minute drive of Grange Farm. There is also a small Tesco Express in Thorpe le Soken itself, about a 10 minute walk from Grange Farm, so handy for those things you may have forgotten. Thorpe also has a ladies hairdresser (better to book prior), along with a butcher, chemist and several other small independent shops. There is also a tyre specialist, next to Thorpe Social Club who could arrange replacements or repairs should they be required.
To get to Thorpe on foot, either turn left at the site entrance or follow the campsite signs and use the public footpath through the fields.

RESTAURANTS

There are several restaurants and pubs serving food in Thorpe le Soken aswell as a Chinese takeaway, where you can order in advance and collect, (which we use ourselves as we live locally) In addition there is a mobile fish and chip van that is very popular and parks outside the local social club on a Thursday evening, just a short walk from Grange Farm and a wood fired pizza van (Pizza Box), who is also at the same location on a Friday.

PUBS

There are four pubs within Thorpe itself aswell as a local social club (CIU affiliated) and all are around ten minutes walk from the campsite, through the adjoining fields, along a well marked and flat public footpath. A torch would be handy if returning late โ€ฆโ€ฆ!! The footpath brings you out near Thorpe Church, where you can find the grave of Sir John Williams, who was the Royal surgeon that many believe was Jack the Ripper, so perhaps not a good idea to walk home alone after midnight โ€ฆ. Unless youโ€™re feeling brave of course!

HOSPITALS

For medical emergencies, please dial 999.

The nearest accident and emergency hospital is Clacton on Sea, CO15 1LH though it may be closed after 8pm, in which case Colchester General Hospital. CO4 5JL will always be open.
There is a dispensing chemist in Thorpe le Soken should you need one.

There is a Doctors surgery within Thorpe le Soken Tel Number 01255 861250.

I have listed just a few of the local places to visit as I know that time is limited, albeit a six day rally. There are lots of local places I have had to miss out/leave off. Cinema
I realise a cinema isnโ€™t exactly on everyoneโ€™s list of interesting places to visit or things to do on a Rally, but Clacton has a very well priced cinema should anyone wish to see the latest movies (they also screen other live events, such as Opera or Theatre productions). https://www.centurycinema.co.uk/ Ticket prices are currently ยฃ3.50 each for midweek movies, which is around half the average price of cinema tickets in the UK! Parking however is limited, especially for motorhomes, with no parking available at the cinema itself (reserved for Bingo !!)
Spa Experience
The Lifehouse in Thorpe le Soken (https://www.lifehouse.co.uk/?utm_source=google-my-business&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=spa-hotel) offers the opportunity for a relaxing spa day, away from it all, its about a 15 minute walk to the spa from Grange Farm (https://www.secretescapes.com often has discounted offers!)

AJ Taxis 01255 474444
Swan Taxis 01255 222280

WALKS IN THE COUNTRYSIDE

There are several walks around the area, accessed directly from the campsite, along public footpaths through fields. Perfect for walking your dog (on a lead please) or even yourselves. As usual the countryside code should be followed, leaving only footprints behind. Please ensure you follow the directions displayed on the campsite when accessing the local paths and do not pass through the farm itself. The farm is a working farm and there is often plant or machinery operating. The campsite has directions for several walks direct from the campsite, which will be provided to you on arrival.
Tendring District Council have produced a series of walks in the area, should you wish to explore the local area and countryside on foot https://www.tendringdc.gov.uk/leisure/sport-recreation/walks-tendring

CYCLING AROUND THE AREA

There are lots of cycle routes around the area, i have attached links to three of them that are not too far from the campsite.

https://www.tendringdc.gov.uk/sites...Route 6 Harwich Manningtree Mistley areas.pdf

https://www.tendringdc.gov.uk/sites...ycle Route 5 Clacton and Gt Bentley areas.pdf

https://www.tendringdc.gov.uk/sites...ute 2 Brightlingsea and Manningtree areas.pdf

There is an annual Tour de Tendring event but unfortunately it takes place on the Sunday prior to the rally.

Hopefully the above information will help you plan your visit to the Ten
dring area and make the most of what it has to offer.

And finally, please take the time to meet and make new friends so that everyone feels welcome, best wishes and we look forward to welcoming you

BUS ROUTES

Due to the large number and differing destinations, you are advised to utilise the following website link to consider different alternatives if you wish to leave your motorhome on the campsite. The link will also provide details of which bus stop and which bus number will take you to your destination AND bring you back !! https://www.geopunk.co.uk/locality/N0076849

TAXI SERVICES

There are many taxi services operating in the local area including some who have minibuses, should a group of friends wish to venture out together.

AH Taxis and minibus 01255 860143

Dave and Yvette
Hi Dave, you mention in your post a gate code for site entry but I don't seem to have this ... is it still necessary?

You can exit the site without a code, that way we can choose who and who not to let back in and management's (Rob and Lee's) word is final. They won't even give me the code ....!!

meanders has confirmed he is still ok for the music quiz and background music on Friday evening in Thorpe Social Club. Which for those of you who dont know, really is above and beyond what would be the norm, so a big shout out to Robin !!! PS Robin, can you make it an easy quiz please, Dave from Essex has asked for some questions with David Essex 'answers' (though i wont know the answers, my Boss might, who has now joined us !)

Music from 7.30pm, Quiz at 8pm. Pizzas are not compulsory, but need to be ordered prior to ensure you get one !! we are ordering tonight to make sure ! you choose your own time for your pizzas !

Toilet thread alert !!

Curry night now has 31 of us, but the camp site only has around 10 toilets ..... so can those who may feel a sudden dash arising, please book early - tickets are on sale through Just smiffy (as he's been here since Friday or Saturday, acting as rally reconnaissance officer, visiting the local pubs on everyones behalf even though he would much prefer a good book and piece of toast), Thanks Garry, i know its been difficult, but someone had to do it !
