Been around!
Curiosity how many MH users have a CB installed or are into Ham radio? Just thinking of putting one in. They died a death after being made legal, however, I can see the social and safety benefits of having one.

I couldn't see the point. Our son was in a classic car club that used them but unless you're in a group and all have them what would you use it for.

I have one...

we used to use them extensively but since no longer off green laneing have not fitted one to any other our vehicles since. Mobile phones give a far better connection, but still have the gear in the loft in case the next apocalypse wipes out the phone masts etc

Wasn't it 1-4 for a copy. ? Maybe regional?

Used to be good back in the day different pirate frequencies park up near the med stick up a measured length of wire and make contact with others in timeru or wherever .still keep contact with a few of them but by Skype now.
Had a legal rig in the last van no skip but lots of foreign truckers using still.

Probably warning of live cams or smokies :ROFLMAO:
10/10

We use pmr446 radios when travelling in convoy, and at festivals

And I'm now looking into doing the ham radio introduction

I have one, and would not be without it. It’s a Albrecht 6110 5w and a 1.8m antenna on the roof. Great reception as far as 30-40km in the right weather. Most I use it in EU on Chanel 21 and 22 on the EU 40 stations. In UK is not much use, I take the antenna down once over the Chanel. In the EU is brilliant.

it was 1-4 for a copy

I think it was 1-4 a copy from a house based rig
It was 1-9 a copy from a mobile rig???

Some years ago a group of us went in our vans to the Italian Lakes, and used walky-talkies. It was good, handy for intercoms, jokes, information on road hazards and views. And we could also use it to avoid the police seeing as a convoy.

That's what we use them for. Usually me at the front with a tail-end Charlie at the back letting me know when we've cleared junction etc. The biggest group run of Wings I've led was just over 200 from Driffield to Whitby via Malton, Pickering and Goathland.

Can't see the point with unlimited minutes on all the mobile contracts these days.
once you've got the HAM gear I believe the cost is zero - no monthly contract to pay but don't know if you have to have a specific annually charged licence fee?

Can't remmeber what it was for a copy, but had a great social life through mine. The truckers kept me right for missing jams on the way to work.

10-4.Big Buddy.. what is your 10-2.. my 10-5 is ab fab. Just heading out 4a 10-7. Hope your Rubber Duck is 10-10. Yep all gobbly gook to me but i can see the appeal. Burt Reynolds certainly did though. ???
