Checked up on the oil for our new to us 2017 Fiat Ducato Vantage and noticed Fiat stipulated 0-30 oil. I’ve never heard of it before, 5-30 yes. My motor factor was surprised at this but checked up and it’s correct. I nearly fainted with the price though, 5ltr £59.50 +vat 😳😳

It’s a bit cheaper in halfords but £10/l is the rough cost of a premium synthetic oil.

I put 4.3 l in my motor bike when I change it. As it does not burn any, my lawn mower gets very classy expensive oil out of the other .7l.

Bit cheaper if its any good. Eurocar parts

5-30 would be fine.
Been looking for the oil grade for a Briggs & Stratton 480cc v twin engine....30 or 5w-30 is ok so can't see it being different for any other engine .
With respect it’s not a Briggs and Stratton 480cc v twin but a Fiat 2.3 150. I’ll go with what is recommend, it’s the eye watering expense that surprised me, is this a forerunner of things to come?

My Volvo requires 0-20 about the consistency of milk! However on the recomendation of Volvo forum members I bought from this company with great service and savings. Mind you I am feeding 2 x 6ltr Marine Diesels!

Cheep skate… why do you think the old fella got rid…😆

You know you can afford it….

Just pretend your buying Anglea a few cocktails…😎
Shut it Gazza :moon2:

Does oil go off? I need to top up my 2013 Ducato and I’ve got an opened 5l container of 5-30 that’s been my shed for a good few years.

I use 0-40 in my 2.8JTD, so youll not have a problem with the 0-30, except for prising open the wallet 👍🏻

These super low viscosity oils are more about meeting emissions standards than any mechanical requirement. There were problems with low pressure warning lights coming on at idle with certain vehicles in Australia during hot weather .

If you look on the container, it should have an API specification, something like SN/CF on it. Basically the S refers to "spark" (petrol engine) and the C referes to "compression" (diesel engine) I've got a couple of old cans of oil in the garage, one says SN/CF the other is SL/CF, in a nutshell, the higher the letter following the S/C means the newer the "recipe" is for the oil. You may have an older motor who's handbook specifies 10W30 SG/CD,whereas a newer car might still need 10W30, but the higher spec SN/CF ?

Opie oils were the only company I could find that could supply the exact specification oil at as reasonable price mail order. Fuchs brand.
Lots of 0 30 about but very few meeting fiat's requirements from the handbook.

0-30w has been about for years. & been exceedingly expensive .Mine uses 5w30 & I buy when up the road is doing 3 for 2's.
Other thing you have to watch is that some of the robbing barstewards companies now package it in 4 l rather than 5 so you have to buy an extra one. mine needs either 6,25 or 6,75l ?

I buy 2 the next year I buy 1 does me for 2 oil changes

I've always thought it was just another attempt to pull the emissions down 0.01% at start-up.
I've been more than happy using the 5-30 grades.

My choice --- although its now £25 a can :Eeek:
