Rapido 696FF 55th edition
Exp
since 2016 but a complete newbie
Myself and my wife have arrived in Normandy, planning a WWII site visit for a week in our Rapido 696ff. We left home with our Gaslow refil system half full, but now on fumes. We cannot find away where to refill the bottles.
All of the petrol stations we went to that sold GLS, was only for cars and the attachment would not fit.
Anyone with any advice, or an address of somewhere we could refil in Normandy.
I think I will take the Gaslow system out when I get home.

You need to download the myLpg.eu App and it will tell you all lpg stations in your area, as regards the attachments as you don't seem to have a set all you can do is hope 1 of the suppliers coming up on your app has some fittings, lots of them do keep various attachments
Good luck hope you get sorted

There seems to be around 100 places in Normandy to refill

Go to the biggest Aire in the area. Look for a UK van. Ask to borrow their adapters, offering a cash deposit, then fill with gas, buy a bottle of wine, return to Aire giving adapters and wine to nice person who lent you them, whilst collecting your cash deposit.

And buy the adapter set when you get home, and enjoy cheap gas. Not being ripped of by Calor

As already said, you have loads of places that you can fill at if you look on the app. It's ambiguous but you seem to think that the places you went to MUST be only for cars because the attachment doesn't fit. If so you are wrong as you have assumed the attachment is the same globally, it's not. You need an adaptor depending on the country you are in.

£30 well spent https://autogasshop.co.uk/product/lpg-autogas-filler-adapter-set-cotton-bag/

If you do you won't be able to buy calor gas cylinders there at all....

As others said you need the adaptor, if you haven't got one you could probably get one in a camping shop or amazon.fr and delivered to a local locker. Ask in the garage if they have one you can borrow or hang about till someone else comes in and ask to borrow till you get one.

Also download the mylpg.eu app to find stations a s prices or use the essence app as this also has diesel etc too and has up to date prices.

Oh and good luck getting cylinders and changing pigtails if you remove the gaslow system when you get home because if you ever go back to France etc you'll find they are completely different as they don't do calor. Gaslow system is the best all rounder you can have, you just need to do a little research. Yes you're in a pickle currently but easily solvable if you follow the advice given here already.

Filling in France maybe not be quite as easy as you think. There is info on the mylpg website stating France are tightening up their procedures for gas. Mainly being for car use only. Total garages will no longer allow the filling of motorhome gas tanks even if they have an outside filler. If this is true or not I do not know as I don’t need to try and buy any just yet

I think you are right re Total, think I remember quite a few posts last summer about them being strict in particular.

Total banned motorhomes filling with LPG a few years ago. Spent the last two summers in Normandy and Brittany and never had a problem filling anywhere else, apart from the filler being on the wrong side of the van for the pumps.

Last two times I have filled has been at Total service stations. Got refused for the first time ever last time away. And it didn’t matter what type of filler or system you had. No GPL for camping car think that was a BP. Next service station was a Total, and filled fine. No problems there.

This is great advice, I have one of the adapter, but not the correct one for the pumps, I believe we need the dish type one. We are currently in Sainte Marie Eglise, on our way to 'dead man's corner' now.
Thank you everyone for the great advice, I thought as the adapter i have worked in Ireland, for some stupid reason I thought it would also work in France 🤔

Two possiblies for you, but go in and ask if they have adapters or see if the shops sell them
