Some, but still alot to learn!!
Hi. Just wondered if anyone on hear has had dealings with Tyne Valley Motorhomes? What was your experience/opinion of them. Thanks

I live near them and have known the family since they started. Total family business and built from nothing. No doubt they'll have unhappy customers but the overall opinion is positive. Unfortunately we never find out the true value of customer service until we need it. They always have a good mixed selection of used vans.

We found that the sales side, we bought a MH brand new from them 8 years ago, was great. The servicing dept was abysmal, even to the extent of putting the wrong oil in the engine. Luckily I noticed it, but the amount of Bulls*** I got from them, as they tried to justify why they had put the wrong oil in was unbelievable ! Never went back for servicing.

Thanks Willjoy. I'm asking as they have a used motorhome I'm interested in.

Thanks Sandancer. That sounds unforgivable. How long ago was the oil incident? Maybe they've got better?

It was the first service, so 7 years ago. Obviously can't comment on how they perform these days, but if you do buy from them and you want something fixed / altered, just check carefully that it was done right.

Will do. Thanks for the heads up.

We bought our Burstner from them in 2017.

They left us alone whilst browsing with a brief "Give us a shout if you need help" which is the way we like it.

When we found the Burstner, we gave them a shout and Joe, the salesman was very attentive without being pushy. If he didn't know the answer to a question, he found out there and then.
When we decided we wanted the van, he went through all the formalities clearly and at our pace. We drew up a snagging list, negotiated the price and the 'extras' and signed on the dotted line with a £1000 deposit.

We agreed to wait 3 weeks for the snagging, service, valet and timing belt change.

On the appointed day we got the train to Newcastle, and bus to the dealership. Joe said we should have given him a ring and he would have collected us from the train station.

They had a dedicated handover man who took about 2 hours to show us the workings. The only slight setback was a wet patch on the garage carpet which had been caused by the valeter using a pressure washer and a twisted bit in the rubber door seal. This was rectified immediately , the garage dried out and an offer for us to get a new piece of carpet at their expense. After satisfying ourselves that the damp patch was as described and nothing more sinister we completed the purchase by paying the balance by debit card, although they did try the " funds must be cleared before collection" trick.

We discovered the van was losing a little engine coolant which we traced to the rear seats heating matrix. I informed them of this, arranged an appointment, and hose and clamps replaced under warranty.

We were very happy with their service. Bear in mind this was 2017 when it was a buyers market!

Absolutely SHITEcompany to deal with!
Bought a used Murvi Morello there a couple of years ago. As soon as they had the money they were not interested!
I had to return the van 5 times to get problems fixed, they are TOTALLY INCOMPETENT avoid like the plague.
Had to threaten legal action to get anything done.

How did you notice the wrong oil had been used?

Got my new PVC from them in 2019 having ordered on the manufacturer stand at an earlier NEC show and so knew nothing about them other than they were about 300 miles away from my home :whatthe:

Sale progressed smoothly being kept informed of delivery dates once that was known. Early changes to the order (I realised I did want to pay more for comfortmatic), were dealt with without fuss, even when that messed up the financing. On collection day I was met at Newcastle Station, given a good length of time being shown around the van, and whilst I was then sorting the final payments (which they were happy to do on the day) a minor problem with fit of the toilet cassette hatch was adjusted.

I did take out a three year service habitation check arrangement with them so have been back annually for the van to get the once over. That seems to have been OK, but as I'm not a mechanic I would have no idea how you confirm if the servicing was done correctly. There were a couple of minor warranty issues on the van interior (wardrobe door started to warp), sorted without fuss once they had the Autotrail approvals, and the door was ordered and held in stock for my next service visit rather than needing to do a special trip.

Overall happy enough with them, but due to the distance if there was a next time I'd be looking for a dealer closer to me simply for convenience.

I bought a Chausson from them in 2019 dealt with Joe to sales and service was first class I was picked up from train station
I had a problem with my camera witch they sent a new one but it did not fit the size of hole in the cowling with in a week they sent a new cowling complete with drill cutter for the size of camera and offered to get a mobile fitter to do the work as I live in the north of Scotland but I was able to do it myself had a couple of other things and always was sorted out professionally
I have bought a new MH this year more local and are now wishing that I had dealt with Tyne Valley this time

Thanks alexandana. Were the issues spotted before you bought and not rectified or became apparent after you had used the van. I see you still have a Murvi Morello, so was it fixed in the end?

As most will advise a mixed bag some good some bad.
If the van is what you really want get a good inspection done before parting money.
I myself many years ago bought a van from them which turned out to be less than advertised let’s say, never agai!
Brother in law bought one last year from them, hidden damp and not a good experience they had.

But in the end it’s your choice good luck

When I was buying I wasn't too worried about distance thinking a trip once a year for service was fine as I'd make that part of my desire to get out and about in the van. Cars I had bought had only needed that once service attention a year. But a motorhome is a bit more complex, it's not just the mechanics but effectively also a mini house with all that extra stuff to need tinkering with. I don't know about other's experience on average but I must suspect most will have at least one warranty / fettling type visit, if not two in the first year of their van, mostly not for things serious but inevitably even if the pre delivery checks were done well, the use of the van will identify an adjustment or two that is desired.

Their information states they are part of a network of affiliated dealers which will all honour the warranty. Did you try this at all?

Someone may know the van and give you a true account of it

Nope as I was happy to travel to them being able to time any visits with a wider trip up north, and fortunately none of the little issues I had needed urgent attention. There are some nice campsites around Northumberland :) But yes they did advise me of that network when I was buying

Hi the issues were only spotted on use of the van, water ingress through the sunroof was the first, a repair by Tyne valley with silicon and tightening the heki fixing bolts that broke every second fixing and had to be sorted by Murvi. The continual flushing of the toilet until all water was gone, only discovered after filling with water.
Tyres that were 10years old!!!!!
Bolts missing to secure sofa bed, found that out at first roundabout on the way home to Scotland. Water filter clogged and disgusting. Carpet/ headlining kept falling down, despite numerous attempts by Tyne valley to fix, eventually sorted by Murvi.
Leaking kitchen tap, changed by me because I was fed up by then. 10 day delay on getting the van as the underslung lpg tank had a leak 😳😳😳
Sink waste fell out, repair lasted 10 mins, repaired myself as totally pissed off by then. After arguing my case got a new sink sent to Scotland doc. Wrong coolant in van had to do it myself as Tyne valley hadn’t got a clue, “coolant is coolant”!!
At mot time the inspector asked me to come and have a look as one brake calliper hose was twisted. And on and on but the new owner got a sorted Murvi.😁
Murvi were excellent and if not moving to Portugal next year I would have bought another one. Now got a possl 2win lhd on a Citroen jumper with a TRANSIT engine so fingers crossed on this one👍😁

We bought an Autotrail from them about 8 years ago. They told us that they had looked after it from new and it had a full service history. We brought it home and took it to our own service guy who found 75 percent damp in one panel. When I called them I asked them how that could be if they had done the promised habitation check before selling and they said "sorry we must have missed it". They repaired it and then wouldn't give me a report on what they had done saying that they didn't do that for insurance repairs. I told them that as their original promises were obvious tosh would they please send me a proper report on what they had done. That van had lived a very hard life and not long after the warranty ran out we had to have major engine work done for a big oil leak (sorry not mechanical so can't give exact details). So - would we go back? No. They were lovely and friendly and the sales team were great but the promised checks on vehicles obviously don't happen.
