6 berth motorhome with decent payload? (1 Viewer)

We are about to purchase our first motorhome and ideally need a 6 berth for 2 adults, 3 children, 2 dogs…… we thought we’d found the perfect one (Rollerteam 707) and were just about to put down our deposit, however we seem to be coming up against the issue of payload. It’s currently 3500kg which gives us less then 450kg. We are having an extra seatbelt added to make 6 but this only takes us to 3650kg. With the awning and extras we want added, it’s leaving us with maybe 250kg for a family of 5 which is just not enough!

Can anyone recommend a 6 berth motorhome with a reasonable payload please? I think we’d need maybe 800kg but I can’t seem to find anything out there. Licence isn’t an issue btw as husband has C1.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I’m sorry,but I don’t understand your logic.
The max weight of your vehicle,fully loaded and ready to go,with you lot in it,plus fuel and water,is on the vehicle plate. It doesn’t matter how many belts it’s got,that is the max weight. You may be able to get it uprated to 3850kg,see other threads on here.
Sorry if I’ve missed your point (been with a three year old grandson all morning and my brain is jiggered!)

The additional belt automatically uprates the payload from 3500kg to 3650kg due to an additional passenger. This is from the manufacturers website. 3650kg is still not enough when the vehicle without extras (awning etc) and people is 3058kg itself. We need something with a much larger payload. Hope that makes sense now.

I think you will find it's a manufacturer's option.

It’s a 7 berth motorhome with 5 seatbelts. They can fit a 6th which will increase the payload over the 3500kg which obviously limits the market, hence it being an optional extra. It’s a Rollerteam 707 if you want to check their website.

Don't know if this applies to more recent models but our last MH was a 2004 Chausson Welcome 27 - 6 berth with a payload of not much under a tonne! Some of their newer models may have similar figures

If you contact SV Tech they will be able to tell you what the vehicle you have found can be uprated to. It may not be possible to go beyond the 3650 Kg without modification but they should be able to give you a steer, so to speak, of what is possible.

As an aside take any claimed payload figure with a large bucket of salt. A number of manufacturers quote figures but they are only available if you don't have much water on board etc. And sadly some just fib. Taking the vehicle to a weighbridge is the only sure way to find out.

Firstly look at the GVW example 5,000kgs deduct vehicle weight plus water fuel awning chairs bbq food and of course the weight of your self and passengers, the very small bit that is left is spare pay load good luck finding one

Roller team 690 can uprate to 4100 with 6 seats and 6 berths with big garage for dogs or misbehaving children.

I doubt you will get a motorhome under 3500 kg that would have enough payload for 6 people (or even 4 to be honest).

You will need to go for a van with a much bigger MAM .... it's something to ask the salesman. If they don't know then walk away.

Some of the Hymers have a MAM of 5 tonnes but I'm not sure of the payload and also the Chaussons as already mentioned.

We have a slightly older 600 rollerteam, which were built on the twin wheel transit with about 900kg payload. The nearest model to the 707 is the 700 (seven berth with 6 or 7 seatbelts).

If you have a C1,, get what suits you,, I don’t think you will find a MH with the seats and payload needed for less than a C1

Hi and

First bit of advice is the joining fee is worth its weight in gold. One thing it gets you access to is the members encyclopedia built up over years if experience called the search function. Normally I would provide links but family issues restrict time. Jim has done some excellent work on weights. We had a six berth with six belted seats and carried us two and three grandchildren on a 4500kg chassis then with a C1. Part of the journey was 3 grandchildren aboard getting weighed at the start of the holiday. We always had to drop water to keep legal. That was with no bikes, paddle boards or what many seem necessary to make a holiday.
One piece of advice is often the dinette area makes a berth for two at night. Be careful with these depending on the size of your children, ours got to 12 before they were too big for 2 sleeping in the dinette area.

Once upon a time when kids were young i had one of these ....7 berth 5.2 tonne and over a tonne of payload with nore space than you will ever fill.
