In very hot Spain at the moment. Our Dometic air con works on the inverter but trips out as soon as we hook up to electric. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

do you mean it trips the site electric hook up or trips the RCD in your van

Suspect site leccy weak and A/C sees this as a fault and trips out?

It trips in the van and the site we're on is 10 amp electricity

I would be interested in any answers to this problem with air con as ours has also started tripping the van RCD. It also a Dometic unit.

The AC needs a megger 500v insulation test, sometimes a multimeter will pick it up if bad enough. Disconnect it and measure between Live and earth then Neutral and earth, should be infinite.

Some inverters have floating earths so an RCD won't trip.

The air con works from the inverter, so unlikely that there is anything wrong with it.

The air con is "after" the inverter, the inverter is "after" the main trip and the main trip, trips when 220v is introduced so its probably a fault on the 220 VAC

Fitted correctly the Dometic Air Con should be installed with a plug, a fused switch or a fused spur so you can isolate it from the mains for testing and or isolation in cases such as this.

So you should be able to isolate the Air Con and test again to establish if it is causing the issue

It doesn't mean that the voltage will be correct. It could be dropping out on low voltage. whereas your inverter will maintain the 220v.
Common problem in spain especially if towards the end of the line on older supplies..
You need to check with a meter across the supply post of the connections at your van that you have 220v +10% or -6%.

We had this problem in France recently. Symto
m:No power. Checked RCD and found tripped. Reset and tripped immediately. Reset again, this time it did not trip but site bollard did. Eventually we managed to move to another part of the site, hooked up working perfectly. Obviously a site problem. There were others problems, like the site barrier wouldn't lift, no fresh water.... A man came eventually and fixed the barrier and the water...... Sorry about going off on a tangent oops here I go again!!
