Chartres

A bit out of order as have been without great internet the past 4 days

We had seen the weather warnings so it was always going to be a travel day from a little village near Argenton sur Creuse up to Chartres and when we went through Orleans on non toll it hammered it down.

We have been to Chartres once before probably 10 years ago but I spotted a cycle route up and down the Eure and that was decision made as we head home and the timing for the storm stopping fitted in well.
We are parked up a pleasant 2.9 KMs from the cathedral and it's flat til it gets hilly and nice cycle or walk by the river

We went straight up to the cathedral and the wow factor came back. Truly beautiful and huge, massive with loads of different "fronts"

The detail on these is amazing. Probably tells a story on the way round and reckon 80 m of it as it goes right round the nave

This was from halfway to try and show the height

A wonder round the town where we were reminded that stained glass and Chartres do mix and possibly the finest tourist information building in a city

Sights and graffiti kept coming

But then the french red arrows out on a show. So we watched them from the town centre wondering which direction they were coming from. Mostly videos taken though

This was where we stood so I could use the mirrored front of the building to work out another direction they would come over us. The town stopped for half an hour. Madame having her coiffure sorted was not happy !

More statues

Then more nice town shots

IMG20230921160022.jpg

Then Jean Moreau a leader in the resistance with his monument over his ashes
IMG20230921160356.jpg

Then I think this is James Cagney graffiti but don't know why
IMG20230921161236.jpg

More pretty stuff
IMG20230921162155.jpg

Then we went on the cycle going downstream on the Eure.

But we now know (we thought it was so but needed confirmation) they have a night time light up of 20 of their top places to see every night til January 24 (we think) so will probably be out later and separate entry for them

Just tried screenshotting some of the video of the planes
