Thought it would be of interest to folk to see just how prolific Tics really are and perhaps be more observant in avoiding them when out and about.

When we lived in South Africa they were a menace.
Forever removing them from our dog.

I got bitten by a tick in Germany, but no undue reaction and I saved the tick in a ziplok bag to show the doc, but he wasn't interested. The dogs picked up quite a lot in Bavaria and one caused quite a bit of swelling which the German vet supplied cream for.
My friends brother got bitten in the Highlands (ooer missus !) and contracted Lymes disease and now has a prescription for medical marijuana to help him deal with the effects as the standard meds weren't helping ?

Tick-borne encephalitis is prevalent in Germany, France and other parts of Europe .
Potentially can be more harmful than what you get in uk.
There is a vaccine available if you want one.

They truly are horrible beasties.

Thankfully my tick-magnet spaniel hasn't attracted any yet this year - mainly because we haven't been to one particular site in Cornwall.
Janine which site is it?

I live in Cornwall and my cocker spaniel runs free for many of her walks in the countryside and she has only ever picked up a tick on one occasion, when she was about a year old. She is nearly six now, and is checked over most evenings, plus being brushed and groomed three times a week as she works as a therapy dog in schools and residential homes.

I know a few people locally who say their dogs (usually spaniels) get covered in ticks, I guess my girl is not attractive to the nasty little beasties!

Lots of ticks in the Lake District - bad in bracken - every dog owner should have a tick remover

Doubletrees at Par.

Every year we go, Buzz collects dozens of ticks there which, if I miss any and the drop off, travel with us for the rest of the holiday.

Hartland Devon ,
Loads in the area especially walking tracks that are covered with ferns in damp areas ,
And deer populated areas .
The annual tablets that our dog has will kill ticks if they bite her and fall of dead ,
It’s Important if you do get one yourself to make sure you remove whole tick , being careful not leave head in skin ,as it will cause an infection,
