Van has been set up so when inverter is on it auto switches so all mains sockets in Van are on.

Is it ok to travel like this so can use slow cooker while travelling?

Should make a better Coq au Van 🤔

Apart from hitting bumps on the road knocking the remoska about I cant see an issue

You will need to isolate the sockets by switching them off at the fusebox/consumer unit as the sockets will back feed all other circuits including the charger and fridge.
The usual arrangement is to separate the hab circuits into 'inverter loads' and 'non-inverter loads', and have the inverter auto-switching only on the inverter loads. The charger, fridge etc would be non-inverter loads, so would automatically be isolated if the hookup is disconnected. If that's how it's been done, then it should be OK

I agree, but it's to easy for a lazy installer to wire the inverter to the incoming mains at the fusebox/consumer unit

Yes , I do it all the time varying appliances

Yea, I do this as well.

We charge our ebike batteries via the inverter while on the move - no problems at all.

whilst I see no issue electrically speaking if you have a big enough inverter and large enough battery bank.

My concerns would be one of safety. If you have seen what happens to the inside of a motorhome in an accident do you really want the pot flying around spraying boiling fluid?
I would want the lid well screwed on and the thing firmly secured, just in case.

Giving the significant other serious burns or a bash on the back of the head just to get food earlier? I would never forgive myself if it was me :(

Not meaning to be a party pooper sorry.

You could get a MrD type thermal cooker. These require no additional power once you’ve started the cooking process (latent heat) so can then be safely stowed away in a cupboard whilst in transit.

Jacket spuds in the slow cooker are pretty safe when travelling.
They don’t go crispy but the taste is superb.
We also put a chicken in a roasting bag and pop it in the slow cooker.

This conversation has reminded me that our microwave is wired through the inverter, never thought of using it at its lowest level whilst travelling......

Yes, no reason why not

Shock horror, we cook while travelling, use the loo, even showered in the past

?????
Surely even idiots don't wire the 240v like that!!

Explain please.
he means that is ALL of your 240 is run by the inverter then the battery charger may want to run, and also the fridge, thus depleting your batteries sharpish, and causing and ever decreasing circle of inverter powering the battery charger...= not good.

Make sure your charger and fridge dont run on electric when inverter is on, whatever way you want

They may already have been isolated by whoever did the inverter change over relay.

The inverter change over is inside my inverter and anyway the comment would apply regardless of being on the move or not. As you say ever decreasing circles.

I've been using my slow cooker on the road via inverter for years. I have drilled holes through the handles to allow a bungee cord to hold the lid down tight. And the whole unit is placed in a cupboard and bungeed down too. So more than happy. (y)

On the 240v setup topic: It's always worth understanding how to isolate the charger and fridge manually. In my MH there's also a 230v switch to manually isolate the fridge, hob, water heater. Plus the RCD has different banks. It's worth familiarising oneself with all of these. There are sometimes use cases to wire the inverter to the mains in on the RCD. The 2000W Renogy inverter auto switches between EHU and batteries (set it to UPS mode). With a decent battery bank you can run the fridge without any problems for extended periods. Also if you've got something like an EC328 control unit. It allows you to manually switch off the battery charger. But it also allows you to switch between the leisure battery and crank battery as the 12v source. This allows you to recharge the crank battery via the inverter if needed. Meanwhile when running off leisure batteries you can manually isolate the charger to prevent the "decreasing circle". Similarly if you've got a 3 way fridge that allows manual selection you can tell it not to use the 240v when you're running the inverter and elect for gas. So there's a lot of flexibility and choices when you understand your system, allowing you to manage your resources (gas, batteries, solar, inverter, diesel etc)

For safety buy a Mr D. It's proved very useful when on the road. It is a thermal cooking pot priced at £100.00 in the sale. Google it and buy one if you can afford it. Once you have heated the ingredients up to boiling point you seal in the thermos flask. It will then cook on its own and will be ready at tea time. We've had curry, bolognese, stew and small joints of meet. You won't be disappointed.

Call me old fashioned but I don't know why anyone would even consider having something maybe 100 degrees in the 'van whilst on the move. In an accident loose items become missiles at best. Even if cold, a bottle, jar or portable radio could inflict serious injury.
As for having three litres of boiling soup???

As I said, I'm old school.

Ill enjoy the stew tomorrow, after we have arrived.

Just my humble opinion.
Tony

Why not put the pot in the sink? That way any spills are not a issue. Still have the lid on of course.
This is what we do with no problem but understand some people are worried if you have an accident Thinking like the I don't think you would go any

We have also done this for years
Some people are worried about having accident which is far comment but if you think and worry like that all the time you would not go anywhere
