People Cannot Understand Why We Prefer to drive / travel by motorhome

Totally agree. Only used it for the one holiday too and never again.

At check in they refused to seat my wife and I together unless we paid for seats together. Never been an issue in the past.

Gave us seats almost at opposite ends of the plane.

When we got onboard the cabin attendant was gobsmaked we weren’t sitting together as the plane was not even half full.

They had even put me in between a woman and her kids, separating them.

Truly disgraceful behaviour by the airport staff.
I think that depends on the airline policy not the airport staff was it queasyjet or ryannair by any chance?

It was TUI. Holiday and flight. They couldn’t believe it.

The check in staff were the airports though.

That's the norm now , pre-booked seats cheaper, that's another way they make their money as well as the bag rip off's.

Same with lots. As I said the airport staff only go by the carriers rules same with baggage etc different rules for different carriers. It's the holiday company or airlines policy it's them that need the complaints not the staff checking in.

it was back in 2014. Around then we flew on holiday with TUI a number of times and have done since, never had an issue. This was the one and only time this happened and the only time flying from Manchester.

generally, its pay to guarantee to sit together. Which we did when the kids were with us, But when just the two of you its not such an issue as they will usually sit you together, if they can. Clearly on this occasion they could have done so, just chose not too.

once airborne, the fight attendant moved me to be with my wife. who incidentally had been put into a row of three seats on her own !!! this also allowed the lady and children, whom i had been allocated to be sat with, to sit together.

just sit where you want.
you would think wouldn't you ?

For initial take off you have to be in your allocated seat. incase it crashes i believe ?

After that (once the seat belt signs are extinguished) then you can move, but you are meant to have permission from the cabin crew. I was moved to be with my wife by the senior crew member. But before she informed her team another member came over and challenged me in a very aggressive way. Even demanding to see my passport and boarding pass. He even started to get physical in trying to move me back to my boarding card seat number. A complete d***H***

He did come over an apologise for his behaviour later, which to be honest I did not accept as he had been extremely nasty about it.

Hence, for me Manchester airport ......errrr no thank you.

Been through many airports both privately and business wise and Manchester is by far the worst. Closely followed by Charles de Gaule,

We were easyJet plus members. But I let it lapse when covid19 came along.

It meant if available, we would choses any seat, 10% off Meals, snacks and drinks. Fastback at some airports.
But it just wasn't worth it.

However, since then. easyJet have emailed me to say they have enrolled me into the easyJet flight club. This means we can change flights free of charge by calling them.

On this last flight, I had booked in February and booked up-front seats. My Daughter and her Fiancé booked in late may. They ended up sat next to us on auto allocation.

Thanks for all your replies.

Manchester Airport have lost the wheelchair.

We dropped our SIL off at Alicante last night, 6:00pm. Took him to Sin Barreras who assigned him a chaperone to assist him to the airplane. They did that and labelled his wheelchair and it went in the hold.

Landed at Manchester, waited and waited no chair.

His flight to Abu-Dhabi he is trying to get this morning without his chair, he's having a nightmare. Ill update when I know more.

That doesn't sound like the other posts where you said Tui couldn't believe it when you told them and that the flight attendants moved you straight away!

Previously, I said once airborne they moved us. Not straight away. Which is what your quote effectively says.

So what’s your point ?

What is it with some people who try to forensically pick apart posts to see if they can catch people out.

So the latest update is.

In order not to miss his flight, he had to walk on his crutches which his struggles with due to hip, knee and shoulder issue.

No assistance or care was given by Manchester Airport.

Trev

I am sorry for your SiL's predicament.

I presume he was travelling on different airlines to MAN and then to Abu Dhabi.

You said the wheelchair 'went in the hold'. Was that actually observed on the airside.

From what I understand if a passenger requires wheelchair assistance that should be made known to the airline, but it appears that in this case your SiL was self-mobile in his own wheelchair.

Either way this is also a problem when one is changing airlines as to whose responsibility it is to rectify the situation.

I presume he had a baggage tag for the wheelchair when it was checked-in as baggage. If so it was a case of lost baggage and should have been the responsibility of the airline from Alicante and they should have organised transport to his Abu Dhabi flight.

Is it possible that when the wheelchair was checked in at Alicante it was tagged as being destined for Abu Dhabi and therefore treated as transit baggage at MAN and taken direct to the Abu Dhabi flight?

The airlines not the airport are normally responsible for passengers special needs.

Trev, those are just my thoughts and does not solve the problem.

Has the wheelchair been located and restored to your SiL?

If I can be of further help post on here or PM me.

Geoff

Thanks for the reply Geoff.

The airline, easyJet, were advised at the point and time of booking for the assistance.

He was not in-transit though.

He flew from Alicante-Manchester with easyJet. Stayed at his Dads house for the night.

Then the next morning, he flew from Manchester-Abu Dhabi direct. Again, assistance requested in advance.

He actually said, and he does not exaggerate. He was at the pint of almost crawling the last few yards.

Arrived at Abu-Dhabi and was from the security and home within 30 mins with assistance.

OK not in transit.

The assistance requested was the responsibility of the two airlines, but not the airport.

So where is his frigging wheelchair now?

This needs a heavy complaint with threat of legal action. I can hit hard if you want any assistance, but I imagine you can also Trev.

I will speak my SIL and come back to you when I get more information

No idea where the wheelchair is, he has contacted Manchester airport for more information.

We are booked to fly Bristol to Dubrovnik on 12th June.

Although we booked months ago with TUI our flights are with EasyJet. Looks like a possible double whammy of possible cancellations or delays.

Although we only returned from a six week tour of Spain/ France 10 days ago we will take our motorhome back to France if our flights are cancelled.
How’s Dubrovnik suiting you? We’re a bit further up the coast at Krk, the weather is fantastic don’t you think? Oh and we’re in the 5* Carthago chic c line on the beach front!!

PS no airplanes were involved in the making of this holiday 😁😁

We are staying in beautiful Cavtat near Dubrovnik And, yes, the weather is great.

See our posts in “photo of the day”.

We loved Dubrovnik on our visit today but wouldn’t want to stay there, far too busy. Cavtat has become one of our favourite places.

We did love Krk island when we visited, with our motorhome, about 8 years ago. That trip showed us just how beautiful Crotia is.

Enjoy your trip.

Best place to sit on plane is the back seats as you never here of a plane backing into a mountain:LOL:
You get time to see it coming at the back , I want what's that.....
