We are travelling with a Disabled Family Member soon on a flight From Manchester

A very few number of my hundreds of flights from dozens of airports were a nightmare.
But I didn’t ever use Manchester’s.

Hence our motorhome, I only ever did airports when I was being paid too and flights were being paid for and of course Business Class to allow access to the secret doors and world of fast track. But give me my motorhome any day.

Brother left from Manchester airport last Saturday. I asked him to give me a time scale from entering the terminal.
No queue outside the terminal, q's at customs. From entering the terminal to sitting haveing coffee was exactly 45mins.
his flight to Warsaw (on his way back to Kiev) was more or less on time with no isues.

BTW, i hate Man airport.

I have always thought of airports and flying as a necessary evil as part of a holiday. Long before we had a campervan, we did a lot of road trips to France and Spain in a car and on a Harley much prefer it to flying but for trips further away it has to be flying, we have travelled by air quiet a few times and even when going first class I never enjoyed the flying and airports. These days we stick to Europe most of the time and so avoid air travel, I certainly would not want to be flying at the moment. My daughter is in Italy this week, she flew from Stansted last week with no problems, she is due back on Thursday, hoping for the same. 🤞

The easiest way to fly is if you occupy the two front seats, you also get a better view through the front window.

And you only have to arrive at the airport one hour before departure time, and on return can clear the airport in about 20 mins.
My last easyJet front seat (passenger section). Was a Jet2 Pilot on his way to work!.

We are booked to fly Bristol to Dubrovnik on 12th June.

Although we booked months ago with TUI our flights are with EasyJet. Looks like a possible double whammy of possible cancellations or delays.

Although we only returned from a six week tour of Spain/ France 10 days ago we will take our motorhome back to France if our flights are cancelled.

We flew out of Manchester on the 19th May to Dubrovnik with TUI, flight delayed 2 hrs, flight home delayed 6hrs, odd how all the five flights delayed out of Dubrovnik on the 26th were TUI.

We stayed in the Valamar President in Babin Kuk absolutely fabulous, hopefully you will have a fantastic time, good luck with the flights.

Our first two flights since the pandemic were in April and May (this month), to Pisa and Alicante, both from Bristol.

It wasn't a particularly pleasant experience, but it wasn't too bad either.

Thankfully, we didn't suffer any of the terrible experiences passengers are enduring at the moment - although it got close once or twice...

No more plans at the moment for flying this year. Taking the van through the tunnel to France in the summer. :giggle:(y)

Have flown many times short and long haul, the last one a disaster took a tumble on the aircraft and ended up in hospital in Tenerife with a broken leg and dislocated ankle, much nicer now sitting in beautiful countryside with the motorhome.

Our neighbours caught a flight to Greece yesterday, or at least I hope they did. They cannot believe we go to Spain in our motorhome. He asked if we stayed in different houses on the way there, she said why do we want to live in a tiny space, when we have a big house to live in. It's not that big, by the way.

I can’t get my head around why people are flying off on holidays when most are saying they don’t know how they can afford the rises in energy and fuel.

Am I missing something here or is there more money swilling around the U.K. than people are letting on 🤔

I'm sure you're not alone in your line of thinking. If the situations weren't so serious, it would be hard to believe, but typical of the media to run the two stories back-to-back.

One minute it is the terrible situation holidaymakers find themselves in at the airports, with holidays trashed because the Government didn't do enough to support the travel industry.

Then next, it's the cost of living with millions of folk facing serious financial hardship; and again, it's the Governments fault, because they created much of the problem and haven't done enough to help!

Like someone I know who doesn't have a pension and claims to be hard up but has a fancy car (one of only 1000 made and only a very few of those have 5 doors) When I asked about the cost of insurance, maintenance and valet services I was told "Obviously you would never understand knowing nothing about cars".

I know lots of people are car aficionados but all I want from a car is to get from A to B safely, reliably and in comfort.

We all have different priorities I suppose.

Consumer items and events that would, in years past, have been regarded as luxuries only to be afforded after everything else was paid for are now seen as necessities that people are entitled to. I volunteer for an organisation that distributes surplus food by way of selling it at very very low prices in what I describe as pop-up shops - noticeably quieter this week as many of the regulars are away.

Makes you think doesn’t it 🤷‍♂️

I have no issue with people spending on whatever they chose.

Maybe I’m just old school as has been said, I make sure main bills are covered before “luxuries” are looked at.

It’s a funny old world we seem to live in now.

There was a woman that used to go to a food bank where I did other paid work.

She would come in her nice new car, on mobility.

Grab as much as she could, then sell it down the pub.

True story. She’s banned from going to that food bank now.

My travel plans are in chaos - just had an email to say my ferry crossing tomorrow morning is over capacity so no room for us!

Luckily they have put us on the earlier crossing - but having to get up an hour earlier - disgrace 😂😂

Only flown into Manchester once that was a local flight from Edingburgh, Manchester is probably the worst airport I've been to.

As for delays with us it's always been BA we have had delays with.
Did have a Delay on Emirates in Bangkok but can't blame them another plane broke down right behind our one and it couldn't get out of the gate. Emirates held the connecting flight in Dubi for us, impressive.

Doesn't surprise me. During the first lockdown we had NHS workers using their privileged early access to Aldi to buy up the centre aisle bargains rather than food, presumably to sell on eBay. Our daughter, also a priority customer but waiting for the public opening time, watched several of them march out with two and three kayaks each - none left when she got in.

Well, it wasn’t too bad. Went through assistance lane with the wheelchair. Quite a long wait due to a family of 8 not knowing what they were doing with liquids and hair dryers etc.

My bag was stopped because it had a tiny Allen key in it.

Queues for restaurants and bars were huge.

Flight was full, easyJet. It was delayed 45mins as it took a long time to load those who needed assistance.

Alicante was easy. My car was waiting as alaways on arrival.

Totally agree. Only used it for the one holiday too and never again.

At check in they refused to seat my wife and I together unless we paid for seats together. Never been an issue in the past.

Gave us seats almost at opposite ends of the plane.

When we got onboard the cabin attendant was gobsmaked we weren’t sitting together as the plane was not even half full.

They had even put me in between a woman and her kids, separating them.

Truly disgraceful behaviour by the airport staff.
