We have just paid stupid money for a new Carthago E Line. We don’t have kids, so are not spending their inheritance.
As well as no individual sun blinds and sliced fingers due to sharp edges on the shelves, we have just realised that there are no 12v sockets anywhere In the habitation area.
There are a couple of usb sockets in the bedroom area but that’s it. The dealer wants silly money to retrofit one, are there any options please as my Fantastic fan needs a 12v socket.
Many thanks

Absolute beginners.
Perhaps not exactly what you're looking for, but on a temporary basis, would a mains plug in 12v cigar lighter socket work, [ available on Ebay for £8.00].
On a longer term, you'll need to locate a switched/ permanent 12v feed as local to the end user equipment as possible.

Absolute beginners.
I recently added a 12v socket in our " garage " area, to run a plug in 12v shower pump off utilising the 12v feed to garage light. Also a blind surface socket to plug the mains tester in so as it's handy for when checking E.H.U. on sites. The plug with a lead on is to supply a of bedside socket with USB built in.
Mike.

Why didn’t you by a van with all those things you wanted. And easy to retrofit 12 sockets
May be easy for you. The van was already in stock so we had little choice. We only realised this morning that there were no sockets.

Guigsy, you are just showing off😁😁

Bouncy Boat, I need to run the fan off hook up but thanks.

Don't know if you are on a Fiat or Merc base but you will presumably have the 12v sockets on the dash, switched by the ‘ignition'.
You should also have a Hella type socket just in front of the cab door. That is on all the time and is capable of fairly high current draw.
When our van was at VanBitz I got them to add a socket and a couple of USB sockets beside the TV cabinet. Very useful for keeping things charged.

Richard.

If the MH is great appart from the lack of 12v sockets then its an easy fix. Plan where you need them to be and fit them yourself. Its pretty straightforward. Then you’ll have the van you want with sockets where you want. Im pretty sure theres not a single MH out there that comes off the forecourt with all you want. Theres always going to be some compromises, if yours is just a lack of 12v then its nothing really.

The same manufacturer that thinks it’s a good idea to do away with sunvisors and use the front shutter instead. It’s hard luck when one of you is a lot shorter than t’other.
In our Hymer we never use the sunvisors just put the electric blind down a bit. Sunvisors are useless for my 4'10" boss.

Purchase a 12v socket to match one of the USB outlets then replace one with t'other. You'll need to check wire size & fusing but it's likely only the fuse will need upsizing. I have nothing I wish to plug into a 12v socket.

Our blind will only drop 6" with the ignition on, any lower and it winds itself up.
Ours has safety stops in the sunvisors position you are supposed to engage when driving, good bit of German design they are above the top of the screen so don't use then.
Our blind is adjustable to any position but can only be moved with the ignition off. I normally have it 9 or 10" down, my screen is probably not as high as yours.

I'd be looking at a way to disable the auto retraction.

On my E-line there is a 12v power connection block in the high locker immediately to the left of the hab door. It's hidden behind a removable wooden panel above and behind the Alde header tank, and has a 12v supply and (IIRC) a D+ supply with open spade connectors. You could attach a trailing 12v socket to these, which would not involve any cutting of holes or trying to get a supply back to the batteries.

It's awkward to get to and you'd need a tester to find out which spades are which. If you bridge the 12v and the D+, the kitchen drawers lock!

I think it's there for the satellite connections.

Thanks very much. We are having the alarm fitted next week so I will ask the fitter to find the connectors and I can draw myself a sketch of what's what.

I have nothing I wish to plug into a 12v socket.
I have 17. :giggle: 12 in the rear in banks of 3 + 1usb on each
On the dash the original one in the drivers under tray supplies a triple in the middle which supplies the sat nav + 1 front facing camera & has a 12v to usb adaptor in 3rd slot The right hand passenger under tray I changed to a voltage display incorporatinga 'C' point for phones at top with a 3.0 A usb under. The rear high level camera screen is hard wired as is the rear reversing camera ,screen & sensors.
The ones in the rear allow me to charge my led lamps x 3 as needed, along with the wife wanting to charge a lap top, notebook, 2 x tablets & a phone usually all at the same time.
All the above can be done whilst I use the 12v compressor to pump up tyres & the vacuum to clean(y)
You can't have too many.

Ours had one 12v socket now has 3 the original one is in a position that's never used, its by the TV but the TV has its own 12v supply, makes you wonder about designers.
Had 5 mains sockets now only has 4 replaced one with a BMV, only occasionally use one of them.

Our individual sun blinds are double hinged so even a hobbit could have eye shade and yes we also have factory fitted 12v sockets in hab area.
