Yes, but they are all more convenient with the pumps to the right. This is because you need to dismount on the left hand side.

It's just a shame they are cracking down on just sitting down and filling up. Very convenient with the pay at pump machines. But their risk assessements say no, and they shout at you and shut the pump off these days!

But dismounting onto the dais on which the pumps are mounted, whilst avoiding the fire extinguishers, sand buckets et al, can b a useful skill ...

The position of the filler nozzle on the gauge graphics is no indication of where the filler is.

If yours is like this, it's pot luck.

One advantage of being spectacularly inept is the ability to deal with any problems with elan and panache, whilst spotting that microscopic defect on the opposite side from the fuel tank that requires inspection before filling up. Conviction continues with rubbing hands together to remove the imaginary grit from the wheel inspection and then removing a paper towel from the dispenser with a flourish to complete the illusion of a planned manouevre. 'Nobody noticed, keep moving ...'

looks like a pretty much universal symbol, so if filler is on RHS no arrow, or LHS you get an arrow

I'm not convinced that lack of arrow means right. I just think that most cars are RHS, so it comes true by default much of the time. A LHS filler is a real bonus when buying a car. Far less queuing at the petrol station (or dangling the fill hose over the roof).

On my vehicles the arrows point in the correct direction.
Transit points to the left, Freelander points to the right and the Fiat MH base has no arrows and the hose is on the wrong side.

not in a motorhome but it has been for years on cars, hired worldwide and always the same

It used to be the case the filler was on the side the nozzle on the pump is displayed on ( before graphical led displays )

I don't have the arrow.

The nozzle on the pump symbol is on the wrong side and facing the wrong.

Luckily I have never had an issue remembering which side. Every single vehicle I have ever owned has had it on the passenger side.

I have the arrow on all vehicles. Luckily the three I fill up are all on the left. I don't put fuel in swmbos polo, that's her job.
Left hand side is best as those pumps are usually free so I assume most cars fillers are on the right.

Probably bull@@it but I remember in the distant past reading that fillers tended to be on near side to make it safer to use jerry can at side of road when you run out..
(Obviously near side on a rhd is other side to lhd)
Probably to be taken with a pinch of salt.

This is true in my case. 2012 Peugeot boxer based Bailey has pump on the right hand side of the graphic but tank filler on the left hand side.

I just look at other vehicles the same as mine in the garage and look to see where theirs is mine is on the same side

At most modern fuel stations and supermarkets the filler hose will reach both sides if you get it wrong.BUSBY.

Trouble is that grit on hose sratches paintwork so not a good idea

I had to check this out on my vehicles and the results are:
09 reg Transit has an arrow pointing to the correct side.
10 reg Freelander has an arrow pointing to the correct side
12 reg Fiat based MH has no arrow and the fuel nozzle is on the wrong side.

As was suggested in an earlier post, the position of the nozzle indicates the side the filler is on when there is no arrow. Therefore, the nozzle is on one side of the pump in the graphic, but the filler is on the other side of the vehicle.
So, if the nozzle is show at the right hand side of the pump graphic and the actual filler on the vehicle is on the left hand side the graphic is wrong.
I hope that makes sense.

I have always been sceptical about the nozzle position. Most cars have right hand fillers and the icon is normally drawn right handed, so people think it is a special code because it normally works by luck. The little arrow, OTOH, is always correct.

When our local Shell garage was revamped they employed a forecourt assistant. They were there to help you fill up. We pulled on to forecourt with our Transit Coachbuild and the assistant waved us on to a pump. I told him the hose wouldn’t reach. He said we have long hoses and tried going round the back and then round the front. Eventually he said you will have to go to another pump. I made sure it was a pump as far away from him as possible on the correct side.

Certainly not at the front on my van. It’s behind the left hand cab door as I guess are most. I’ve no idea where you get the near the front from.

Generally that location is close enough to the front to drape the hose over the windscreen from the wrong side if you park far enough back.
